Guys...there are a few open dates to take your car on the Monticello track. I was wondering if anyone plans on going? Not sure if this was open to the general public or just the guys that have been there before (my buddy is a member and had me as a guest in the Fall). They just sent me an email with 6 open dates starting in April and going into September. Thoughts?

What a great idea! Three hours of track time on a previously "members only" section of MMC. Oh yeah, and a bagel and lunch. Oops.....it's $1000 ($333. per hour).
Still a venue for poseurs. Have fun kids.

Not to take anything away from MMC, it is a great facility, but $1,000 for a half day! We host the largest Italian car track event in North America and if we hit people with those kind of prices we'd be the only ones on the track. Right now we're offering 2 full days on the big course at Pocono for less money than they want for an hour. That same $1,000 will buy you 3 Days on track at our Daytona event in Nov.

Oh hell no. What are they retarded? 1K for a half day? No thanks. At that rate Bondurant or Skip Barber is more cost effective, plus you don't abuse the crap out of your own car.

Yes, it is pretty expensive, but there is one likely benefit: just a few cars on the track. I would be interested. Can you send contact info?

Depends on the track, 10 cars on Lime Rock can seem crowded, while 40 at Pocono not so much.

When I went for the day me and my buddy were the only cars out there most of the time. Fortunately (or unfortunately for the track owners) the current economic situation favors the guys on the periphery (not members but are being courted).

[email protected] I will forward you the email I received.

If you've got the coin and you wanted to treat yourself, which would you do?
Pocono's 2+ mile mostly flat track with 50 other drivers or this 4 mile track with 10 other drivers?

I think it's not so much a money question as an experience issue. If you're an experienced track person then it's probably going to be Monticello though I've never been there.

Pocono is a great place for your first track experience because unless you're a jerk you're not going to get hurt there or bang up your car. I've seen my share of cars hit the walls at that track and trust me it wasn't because the course was at fault. Which leads me to an important point. Try to gauge who you'll be driving with. Spotting the jerks early might save your arse. Also try to get a seasoned organization running the track. I learned that one the hard way. If you're running the full north course then there are two nice very long straights where you can wind your car out, one big banked 180 turn and a very so so infield portion. After 15 years I still go once or twice a year and it's fun. There are a great number of organizations which have events there all year long. The one in late June , "Le Bella ..." , has instructors included and is a pretty good bang for the buck. Pocono is not a well maintained track except during Nascar season. It's usually very dirty and I've damaged my car badly there due to early season maintenance issues. I don't go there early in the season now.

Fifty people on the track at the same time is going to be crowded but I doubt you'd see that many all at once. Besides having other people on the track with you can be part of the fun. Pocono is a big track.

Once you're experienced then for my money the place to go is Watkins Glen. It's a bit intimidating the first time around but you'll get over that. This is a track that can damage cars if you screw up but what a track! You can go there with a wide variety of groups for way less money than Monticello is offering for this deal. Check with Bob Coates Empire state region Ferrari Club. They provide instructors at all of their events too. The Glen takes impeccable care of that track. It's swept every morning.

Summit Point is another one I like a lot. Then there's NJ Motorsport park which was new last year. Historic Lime Rock is not one of my favorites though it's a great place to go watch. That's definitely NOT a track for 50 people. It's miserable when it's crowded. Lot's of people absolutely love that place.

There are many great places to go for 2 day events @ around $500.

NEQ chapter of Audi Club is going to Monticello in May. Take any car you like. Registration not open but should be about $430 for two days, 4 sessions a day with instructor. $40 to join ACNA. Great deal and I'm looking forward to it. Not an advertisement but their club events are great.

Translation: "It has come to our attention that the "members only" approach to maintaining a motorsports park was a miscalculation. There are far more of you out there who would be willing to drive our track on a per diem basis than there are "well heeled" clients who would want to foot the bill for our track through their own exclusive membership."

    Will LimeRock be far behind?
