Former McLaren race-winner Juan Pablo Montoya has advised world championship leader Lewis Hamilton to keep away from Ferrari's Felipe Massa on the track in this weekend's Brazilian Grand Prix title decider.

Montoya, who quit McLaren and Formula One two years ago to race in NASCAR, has tipped Massa to win the race on Sunday - but firmly believes that Hamilton must steer clear of him if he's to wrap up his first drivers' championship.

"I think Felipe will probably win the race," Montoya told autosport.com. "And if I was Lewis, I wouldn't be anywhere close to him. If Felipe comes anywhere near him, I would let him by.

"Lewis has got to play this pretty smart. When you're that young and you're in Formula One, you want to win every race. That's great, but when you're points racing all of a sudden, you've got to learn that a different result can be the best one for you.

"Ahead of this weekend, I'm sure they [McLaren and Lewis] will have talked about this, and he's just got to bring the car home in the points. Then he'll be world champion."

Montoya doesn't think that last year's disaster, when Hamilton went off on the first lap and then suffered a gearbox gremlin that caused him to miss out on the title, will play on their minds too much going into Interlagos.

"Maybe it will a little bit, because they know all about what happened last year, but I don't think they'll dwell on it," he said. "McLaren have won world championships before, so I think they'll do a pretty good job in Brazil.

"I think Lewis will win it, I'll be surprise if he doesn't. He's done a good job with his career and I think he's a great guy. F1 is all about the car, so if you've got that, it's all good for you."

Boy, I'm sure Lewis will rest better now that he got that great advice from Montoya. I'm sure it's a huge revelation that he hasn't heard before!

THAT IS ONE HELL OF AN ADVICE COMING FROM THE MOST HATED DRIVER ON TRACK!!!!...

...heheheheee...If I were Lewis...Id be nowhere near ANYONE on the track...he has made some good friends on the track this year...From Glock, or Webber, or Trulli...not to mention a Raikonnen kamikase or Alonso puncturing McLarens rear tire with the nose..."ups sorry, didnt see ya..."

...Is going to be one hell of a "character builder" for thie kid...but lets face it..

Felipe might win...but Hamilton has almost clinched it.

IS NOT OVER UNTIL THE LAST LAP GENTLEMEN (ejem...not even then)...forza Felipe!!...forza Ferrari!

"F1 is all about the car, so if you've got that, it's all good for you."

As Mansell stated this year earlier when asked who the best driver in F1 was - Its a a group of drivers who, in the RIGHT car can win. This year the right car is Mclaren or Ferrari for the most part and the fight is between those 2.

The quote from JPM hits the mark in the article above.

Actually I think JPM did himself a disservice moving to NASCAR, he was a lot of fun to watch in F1. I know a lot of the guys on here didn't like him, but I thought he had a good attitude towards racing. I would have liked to see him in a Ferrari.

That would be terrible if some moron slams into him while stopped at pit exit. No harsh penaly would be given for ruining someones chance at winning the championship.

    I agree 100%.

Montoya is extremely talented, and I miss watching him in F1. He is also a colorful character, which is always a plus.

Stupid advice. Diving deep into Massa's car is one of Hamilton's most secure chances to take the championship. Not that he'd do it, but if Massa's out, it's over!

And then Hamilton will be DQ'ed for sure from the championship. Why not wish for a great race with the drivers battling each other clean?

I've enjoyed the time when Montoya was in the F1 grid. He's a good racer and a good character who speaks his mind. Unfortunately F1 drivers are supposed to be puppets who regurgitate politically correct statements.

I don't see Kimi as the kind of driver to have taken anybody out or would even try something like that. In fact since he has been racing, besides Monaco and hitting Sutil, does anyone remember Kimi hitting another driver?

Of course, but if it was a clear accident (like, whatever, a third car puhsing Hamilton into Massa), this wouldn't apply. What I wanted to say was: There's one driver on the grid who has to avoid a crash at *all* cost, and that's Massa. Being around him is probably as safe as it gets for Hamilton, contrary to what Montoya says. If I was Hamilton, I'd rather look out for guys like Glock...

Alonso is the real threat to Hamilton......he would take him out for a variety of reasons:
    1. Hates McLaren
    2. Hates Hamilton
    3. Wants to drive for Ferrari
    4. Renault not in the running, so points lost don't matter

Hamilton should be looking all the time for the blue and yellow car...it likely will be in fron tof him as he laps alonso....can you say....brake check!

Hey you never know! Montoya could possibly bang pretty well, and that camera man could be a big pacifist!

Anyways, he's right. Lewis has to worry about not only Massa, but Alonso taking him out.

I would agree Tony, Kimi would not do something like that, and besides it is just tooooo obvious. I do not see anyone taking anyone out this Sunday. It will, or should, be a clean boring race. At this time, the results are almost given. Only a mechanical failure or another moment of brain fade on Hamiton´s part will change history.

I would be shocked if Hamilton tried to eliminate Massa´s chances.

As for Montoya racing for Ferrari, he was highly disliked by Brawn, Todt, and di Montezemelo.

    Not to mention Schumacher.

Massa needs to look out for LH.
If both DNF, LH is WDC.
    Play offense.
