Agreed +1. Hence the reason I'm changing my prediction . Montreal is the home of the freak occurence win. 32 races, only 5 repeat winners. Therefore I'm shuffling my picks; Lettuce ftw, Ice P2, followed by Nico 2.0. Nico will surpass Keeks in F1 race starts this weekend, he'll want a podium to mark the occasion...
So maybe we should be doing the predictions with 5 laps to go in the race? I think it is a lot more fun to do these without any more detailed knowledge. Which is probably very similar to where the teams are. People think that the teams know it all, but they're just as clueless as everybody else. Including where they stand in regards to their own performance.
I'm in a Fantasy F1 league, so for me the critical juncture is FP3. We have to have our picks locked in a minute before qualifying starts, so that's the last opportunity you have to observe the cars / drivers in (what is usually) qualifying trim. When I started playing in a fantasy league I got a lot more interested in what was happening in friday and saturday practice.
Has no one on the board organized a league for the F1 nuts on fchat? If not, I'll be glad to do so next season.
My prediction: Hamilton stomps the field. Second through fifth will be: Maldonado, Alonso, Button, Massa. Mark
Fairly straightforward: MS has won here 7 times, will be driving with car nbr 7, 7th race of the season, 7th winner to be different, and MS will start on the grid from 7th place so: 1. MS 2. LH 3. FA Bonne chance, Frank
I know guys and its fun, guess I just need to loosen my codpiece. I'm looking forward to practice tomorrow so I can get a sense of who will be the main threats in quali and the race. What are the weather predictions for race day?
While you're at it: Care to elaborate on how exactly you come to conclusions based on practice runs? I'd love to know. And probably every team manager as well.
I view practice as a sort of pre-qualifying yet I do not base 100% of my conclusions from practice I only use it as a window into what could be. No crystal ball or anything just my outlook based upon decades of viewing and then bring all three into a final conclusion. Maybe some do not see it like I do yet that does not mean my way is the wrong way nor does it mean it is the right way, it is just my way.
I only take anything out of practice 1 or 2 if I know someone who is physically present at the track at key areas watching the cars (who is early on the throttle, who looks stable at braking and turn in, who is quick through where), otherwise I take nothing out of P1 or 2. P3 is the first sort of glimpse we get at what each car may be doing in qualifying.
I'd give them a race or two to have the configuration down. This should help them with traction out of the hole though.
The pic to me is more aero than exhaust exit (the cf 'whatever that is'). I seem's to me the exhaust is actually exiting more in its usual path ie just before the rearwheel.
In fact it looks like its dumping outside the rear wheel as opposed to feeding inward toward the diffuser.
+1 Heating the rear tires maybe? Doesn't look too 'aero' influenced to me.... Ooh, the golden age of the EBD! Cheers, Ian
