Has anyone ever measured the walking distance from the Metro to Section 11 (turn 1). My Dad and I are debating how far we walked........... Thanks in advance. Kevin S. Orchard Park, NY
I measured it on google eath once, it's over a mile. BTW, this year I walked of the island to the taxi stand from stand 11, it's 3 miles!
I've been in GS 11 for 4 years, and the walk (depending on crowd density) for me is around 40 mins from Metro to seat. There are enough shady sections to help you beat the heat, and it's mostly paved (with a short section of gravel just by the lake towards the end of the hike. It's not too bad, just make sure you have comfortable shoes, sunblock and a hat if it's sunny and hot. Cheers..
Thanks - it was a nice walk. Just wondering how long it was in miles. I though under 2 miles - he thought over 3.....it's hard to tell because you cross the track twice and the long bridge over the river once....
We walked the 2.7 miles of the track after the race as well. Pretty cool because it certainly gives you a better perspective of the surface, curbs, etc. You even get to see the gardens off to the side that I wouldn't have known where there otherwise.
I don't know the route, or I would do it, but someone can go here on G-maps pedometer. If you hit start recording on the right then double click on the map you can mark and measure the walking path.
Thanks!!!! that's exactly what I was looking (holy crap is that technology cool!!) For those wondering it is 1.6 miles from the Metro to turn 1.............. Kevin S. Orchard Park, NY
Were you guys on that line to the Metro? That was insane....20 min. in the sweltering heat and we didn't move a ft. Surprisingly, unlike New York, everyone was calm.
I approached the metro line all the way to the left and the line moved fast. But I also waited 1 hour until I left the Grand Stand.
That's the longest damn walk on the face of the earth, especially in a crowd in the heat. I sat in 34 this year, MUCH easier access and nearly as good seats.
All the way to the left side is the trick.....we blew right through hardlay any wait at all, and we walked from section 11....... Beats sitting in a hot car leaving a parking lot after a race.... Kevin
Let's see a show of hands: Who here has fallen prey to walking off the island on the bridge to nowhere?
Ah I know that bridge. I haven't walked that one; however I have one boneheaded move that tops that. In 2004 I was talking on my cell phone during Friday rush hour traffic and drove across the Port Champlain bridge. Twice. I completely lost my mind the second time. Needless to say - I hit Crescent St. hard that night................... Kevin S.
Oh yeah - one detail I forgot to mention. The Port Champlain bridge was UNDER CONSTRUCTION at the time and half the lanes were closed..................... Kevin
You guys are bringing back memories of my 12 trips to Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve. I stopped going after 2001 because it had become impossible to see much of anything except from my seat (even on Saturday), and the TV coverage has gotten so extensive, it really didn't pay to go in person anymore. But in the last 5 trips I sat near the hairpin (stands 15 or 24), which not only was good to see passing, but a lot closer to the Metro station!
