Hi everyone, I will be in the US for three weeks from Friday, with a bulk of the time there being spent in Boston visiting my brother who will be based there for a few months. Given the close proximity to Canada I figure it's as good a time as any to try and spend some time there. Whilst I will certainly explore the country in much greater detail in a future dedicated trip, it would be good to squeeze in two days in Montreal given its proximity to Boston. I don't know much about Montreal, so am open to suggestions. Any good recommendations for hotels around the city centre? I would like to spend around $200 per night. Any recommendations on must visit sites, good areas for restaurants and night life (I am 24) and any other important information would be much appreciated. Also if anyone would like to meet up for a beer I would be pleased to do so! Thanks
I am originally from Montreal but live in Chicago now. If you're there over a weekend, you will want to check out St Laurent street north of Sherbrooke at night. Restaurants like Globe and Med. Dunno what you can find for <$200 but check out the Omni on Sherbrooke and Metcalfe. I think the Sofitel will be more expensive.
Montreal advice: I'm pretty sure you will be in town for the Montreal Jazz festival. There are many free outdoor shows. Also visit the Old Port in Montreal. The main shopping street is St. Catherine, and nice restaurants with patios on Crescent street. Restaurants: -Le Meac (on Laurier) -Many excellent french restaurants in an area called "le plateau" -L'Heritage -Milos (expensive greek food on Parc Ave - world reknowned) -Breakfast- Beauty's on Mont-Royal and St-Urbain (50's style diner) -Keg in Ville-Marie (downtown) Regarding hotels, again, not sure what would be available <200$ during the Jazz fest time...book in advance. have a nice time!
If you're here on july 8th, make sure to attend the Fiat Breakout. It's the largest gathering of italian cars and Ferraris in Montreal and it happens once a year.
Nightlife......depends for what I guess..... Try the main strip on St-Laurent and Sherbrooke.....go to Rouge, GoGo, Koko Or head down to Old Montreal and go to Le Philemon, Vauvert or Terrace Beausecours.
Thanks for the great suggestions guys. Will be trying to get there early next week, schedule of my buddy permitting. Best
