The wife & I plan to attend some vintage motorcycle events in Austria, and Switzerland just before the Monza GP. So we are looking for advice, dos & don'ts to attend by train or rental car.

    Many TIA, RF.

I was there in 2016, not my 1st F1 by far. I truly enjoyed it. They had shuttles to the track. Did a lot of walking. It is like a festival, very fun. I missed it, but heard there was a tour of the old banking. While in Italy visit Maranello.

Just above the 1st post in a section, you should see numbered boxes. The thread you want is on page 4.

Ugg... We were there last year, and when you are at the track its great. otherwise its a PITA. There is no good way in and out of the track. If you take the train from Garabali or Centrale station ... you have to take the shuttle bus to the track, and then you walk about 2 miles. Normally that is not an issue but last year it was 98 - 100 F all week, so it was brutal, and humid.

Even if you fly in the heliport is about 3/4 mile from the paddock.... and they have the foot traffic flow so jacked up! our friends on race morning were able to find an Uber that had a pass to drop them off at one of the main gates in the town that abuts the track.. that was only about 15 min walk ... but getting out they then had to walk into Monza across from the train station to get an uber back to Milan.

Dont get me wrong, I love Monza - if you have never been you have to go... but this was the first time I had been in a while, and it was CRAZY - 250K people per day! so just imagine the logistics. I would not drive... Unless you have dedicated parking at the circuit. getting to paddock Club from the shuttle bus was 1 hour walk in the heat. .... ALSO they close the foot bridges over the track so there is only two tunnels you can use but they take you the long way around to the shuttle bus areas. just be prepared.

we had hospitality, which was great, BUT - if you dont, the food and bev lines were 45- 1 hour long... and the water stations were longer. just be prepared. The Train service from Milan to the track is easy.

I agree with the above. I went last year for the 7th time, but it was the first time since Drive To Survive. It used to be busy, but these days it sometimes feels dangerous. We had General Admission and getting to see the track was practically impossible. I think that GA is no longer a viable option for any race unless you're a youngster willing to stake your claim for a place and stay there for hours on end.
I've never heard of there being tours of the old banking. You can just go there and have a wander yourself.
All that being said I'd be happy to return, but only if I had a grandstand ticket.
