If you lived in an area in the US where an '85 308qv was not subject to emissions tests/inspections and did not have to wear the big ugly U.S. safety bumpers, what would you do to make the car perform and look better? How do you best achieve more power and less weight?

    Thanks

install UK spec camshafts and ECU's, fit an Ansa sports UK spec exhaust including manifolds (or equivalent), lighten the flywheel and clutch, fit a sports air filter, use high octane fuel.

    Or, fit a supercharger.

2.Some other induction besides K-ietronic. I retrofitted to Ferrari Weber carbs and got almost 30 hp and ft-lb of torque and incredible sound changing nothing else. Works fine with stock ignition and cams, although 3.2 cams intake a bit better w/ore lift. All very simple, not expensive relatively.
3.Port head. After a head port if you already have carbs, you should pick up about 30 - 40 more hp based on computer dynos for a total of 60-70 hp over stock utilizing simple basic uncomplicated basic mods. This is what I am doing next.

It seems to me that with all the talk about adding power, the easier way to gain performance is to lighten it up. Bumpers, exhaust, and don't forget a brake and wheel upgrade. I think you can save some serious pounds with new rotors and hats, calipers, and lightweight wheels. If you get real nutty, how about a carbon fiber rear hood, front hood, and targa roof panel.

I happen to live in such an area. For these cars there is not a bunch you can do without $$$. Changing the bumpers and pulling the cat helps but you still are at a hp disadvantage in this day and age.

A 308 QV is a terrific car – great looks, classic Ferrari sound, and a blast to drive. But it is not a particularly good car for someone who wants a lot of power. Read the article on the turbocharged 308 in the April issue of Forza magazine and note the problems and expenses the owner had. Obviously if something like that is want you want to do then go for it, but personally if I was dissatisfied with my 308’s performance I’d sell it and get something else.

I would most likely do what Russ did. Heck, I would probably do it to a 348.
