I just looked at the thread talking about the Michelotto F40 for sale, and it says (as do the photos) that it has carbon airboxes. Cool! I'm wondering if any other F40 owners have fab'd additional carbon pieces for their F40s? I'd love to put more CF in there. :) I don't want to replace the wing, but here are a list of parts I thought would be cool:

    - Airboxes
    - Wastegate vent
    - Top cover of heat shroud
    - Shift knob (already done that one)
    - Steering wheel (seen a few of these but still haven't bought one)

Anyone have sources for these or any other CF parts? Any other F40 owners interested in having some made together? I figured we could contact MACarbon and benefit from a slight economy of scale (very slight, albeit).

John at Macarbon is an easy guy to talk to. They can make almost anything out of CF. They are currently doing a shifter knob in CF for the CGT, at about one third the price that Porsche list it for. Porsche's knob is identical to Macarbon's.

I think the air boxes would look really cool in CF.

Why? The wood shift knob has so much "history" with porsche :(

Porsche have offered it as an option from the 2005 model year. I guess everything else you look at in that car is made of/covered by CF.

That is not a carbon fibre box. Look closely and you can see the spot welds in the sheet metal. Also, the flanges for the screws are clearly metal. It appears that someone has painted it to look like CF but it is not. The CF stencils are available if you like the faux look.

Ya know, that doesn't really look like carbon, look inside the box. But why would a Michelotto car have a carbon PAINTED air box???

Would you ever think about selling the original wood shifter knob or keep it if you ever decide to sell the car? I would def. be interested in buying a shifter knob from a sports car.

I have a Carbon Fiber steering wheel made by Reverie here in the Uk, they do several different models, the one I have weighs in at 250g, they aren't that cheap but they are probably the best you can get, retail is around £500-£700

Also where did you get the shift knob from?

Be sure to swap at least part of that wheel with something (alcantara, even tennis racket grip) - last thing you'd want is slippery hands and a smooth polished wheel.

Someone else said that to me, but I don't want to cover it up, it almost defeats the object of buying it, I've got a real good grip and it doesn't seem to slip but I do know where you are coming from ;-)

I've just sent an email to John at MACarbon and Eric at EBS Carbon about additional F40 CF pieces. If you are an F40 owner interested in any additional CF pieces, please put a reply on this thread saying which pieces. That way I can know about how many people would be interested, and you can be subscribed to this thread to get updates as I find stuff out. Thanks!

    Hi All,

I don't know about you all but the F40 does need more carbon! We'd be interested in taking a look at what the group decided was their priority parts. Depending on demand and our current workload, we would be interested in taking something on. As we did with the Carrera GT, we would work out a price for the group which would be lower than the eventual list price. In addition, someone (probably Steve!) will need to supply the parts to mold.

And just since there was that photo of the CF wheel above, here's a shot of a wheel we just completed for a Murciélago. We'll be announcing our F360 wheel line soon.

If I took a road trip to SF in the F40, how long would you need to make the molds? I'll have the F40 in the Central California Ferrari Challenge Rally in May. Maybe I could bring the car to SF after that.

I'm pretty sure Roland's F40 "LM" has a CF wastegate vent... I'll see if I can dig up a pic to confirm...

That's exactly what I'm looking for, Rick. Is the top level of the heat shield also done? I can't tell from the angle. Where did you have that made?

    Thanks,

    Steve
