With a view to the future and to satisfy my curiosity can the F40 guys help me out here.

    1. The brakes - having driven an F40 on many occasions I know why everyone upgrades their brakes.
My question is what does the LM brake kit (or CParrs custom Brembo) comprise. Next question/statement - I'm assuming this kit will reduce the pedal effort required to stop the car in a hurry right (regardless of the fact that the car does not have any servo assitance? Chris mentioned the requirement for a new master cylinder - why?

    2. LM Turbos/Exhaust etc - I know about these - I have heard that there are also LM intercoolers - are they necessary and how do you benefit? The exhaust question is simple: Tubi LM w/Test pipes.. Are there ECU upgrades which up power without changing the explosiveness of the power delivery. Also, do these ECU upgrades run a greater boost pressure?

    3. I am assuming that I have to upgrade the wheels to the OZ Racing F40 GT/Speedlines/Enkei to squeeze the new brakes in right? (to the best of my knowledge the OZ Racing "LM" wheels don't fit without front wheelarch modification)

Oh dear: How much will the LM Brakes/Turbos/Intercoolers/ECUs cost from Ferrari/Michelloto etc?? :(

    I´ll add some more...

What about the dropgears? What diference do these make in terms of acceleration and top speed? Any numbers?

I read somewhere that it is safe to rev to 8200 to 8500 rpm. Does the engine not have an electronic limiter? Is there an ECU that upgrades these rev limiters?

What about the LM body parts? are they easy to find? Not the LM lookalike parts like harmman, but real or parts recreated from originals.

Finally, what is the performance level of a F40 with lm body and wheels, upgraded LM turbos and intercollers, performance chip, Tubi LM and drop gears? How much would it cost to pick an F40 and make all these changes?

By the way, the "LM turbo kit" are not, in fact, LM turbos. And the Carubo chip isn't even done by them.

Here's my article under Resources/Other/Parts & Services, F40 Track Preparation

Basically, the first question is, "How will you drive your car...percentage street vs. track?" This, and budget, will determine my recommendations.

There are chips available that increase fuel delivery which allows increased boost. Crude, but works just fine, I've run them.

Larger turbos work well too, depending on your intended usage. OE IHI turbos don't like to run continuously over 22 psi. Over reving leads to bearing failure (ask me how I know.)

Intercooler doesn't require upgrades until you go over 750 hp or so, the OE units flow well.

Not necessary to over rev a turbo car, places more stress than additional boost (within reason).

Drop gears are worth it if you'll never want to see 200 mph again. I can make what you want to go road racing, or Bonneville Salt Flats for that matter too (200+).

Brakes require proper air ducts to get the air directly into the center of the rotor. Larger diameter rotors not entirely necessary, but I do recommend an evaporative cooling system that Tilton makes. Michelotto's dual master with bias bar pedal box is the only part I'd purchase from them. I didn't, but did remove the OE proportioning valve in the rear brake circuit and add an adjustable one. The OE brakes have too much rear bias for sticky tires.

Basically, I've gone down this road, without purchasing Michelotto parts.

If you're due for a major service, consider pulling the heads and o-ringing the cylinders for high boost insurance. I also changed the top piston rings, upon Bob Norwood's recommendation, to better handle a bit of detonation.

Dual element carbon wing is nice for high speed stability and cornering power, as is a front splitter.

I've run BBS three piece wheels and love them, IMHO.

Remove rubber bushings entirely. 348 Challenge bushings fit the F40 perfectly. Remove front ARB rubber drop link bushings and change to rod ends.
