Who says that about a 14 year old girl whose stepdad has forced her to perform oral sex? Who makes generalizations about women and promiscuity? Chances are, you're girlfriend/wife wasn't a virgin when you two met, how'd you like it if somebody called her a slut based on that fact alone? God forbid anybody's partner got raped, but if yours did, and somebody made that comment about your partner, you'd be singing a different tune.

 

Yeah, rape is rape. What's next, denying marital rape? because she is "wife" and should do whatever the husband tells her.

Why is the character of the victim an issue in sentencing? sexual assault is just that, not "oh, she's loose, so lets have a go, couldn't be that hurtful"

You make some fair points, although I don't know about 18 year olds necessarily being able to make mature decisions, hey, I know 25 year olds with the mindset of six year olds.

I actually have no problem with retaining the age of minority. I only want it enforced across the board. As in : below 18 years old, you can't have sexual contact of any sort with anyone of any age or of either sex. Full stop. But as it stands, I don't like the gray areas.

 

Sorry, but sometimes it seems as if he says something completely off the cuff and outrageous maybe only for the sake of doing so, and spends the next few posts doing damage control.

Aside from that, I'll ignore Dan's posts as, like Noah, I agree that he's just too far out there to address on this topic, but as for the 18 y/o vs. 14 y/o enforcement of laws, I respectfully disagree with making sexual activity among youngsters illegal...the law regarding 18+ with a minor vs. minor with minor is more for the minor's protection - there is an awful lot more an 'adult' can do to coerce a younger party into sex, thus making it similar in mentality to sexual harassment - utilizing a position of power/respect in order to coerce. bottom line, not that I think kids should have sex, but do you really think it's a good idea for the government to legislate sexual relations? I'm boggled by the puritanical laws that still exist in a lot of states about what sexual positions you can use, taking it a step further moves us further down a road that I'd like to see dead-ended regardless.

And, back on topic, the Italian court ruling is, imho, the most ludicrous and insidious thing I've ever heard; but we are talking about a country which has almost embraced mysogeny in many forms so I'm not that shocked.

 

I did say he should be hung for doing that, you know put to death. What he did to her is an abomination and the treat he poses to any other woman is far greater than the value of his life.
I dont see how people are misunderstanding this.

Rape is rape and you should be punished serverly for it, all Im saying is that if shes still pure (or married) the punishment should be even worse....death!
