Very Cool... Note the "Prova MO 31" on the rear flank of the 48 car... When was the last time that a F1 car was "streetable".... Once ground effects became know, pretty much all of the ability to run them on the street was lost, but obviously, in the 50's the did their shakedown running on the street.. How cool was that....
I still like period black and white photos better than color, but it is really nice to find period color stuff to help build models correctly...
Thanks David. Wonderful pix, as usual. Can you post it on the french forum about the Daytona? Or do you allow one of the french members of FerrariChat to do it for you. With full credit/copyright/whatever-the-word to you?
Done! Along with two others. I am afraid that I was unable to provide any captioning in French. Boudewejin, You have an incredible archive! Bravo! David
This thread makes me realize (once again) that I was born in the wrong decade. Thanks to everyone who contributes here! -Chris
Thank you BERTOCCHI, BOUDEWIJN, PHIGR7 for your beautifull photos. Very nice. The Dino's at Monaco are really spectacular. I took these two photos at Le Mans 1980. The 512 BBLM #27577 looks really tired at the end of the race. I think the car is still with Pink-Floyd drummer Nick MASON. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hello Matthias, Yes, n°22 is #0005 at Spa 1960 with Willy MAIRESSE. n°50 is #0003 at Monaco 1959 with Tony BROOKS. n°48 is #0002 at Monaco 1959 with Phil HILL. n°46 was #0004 with Jean BEHRA at Monaco 1959. I get the informations from the FERRARI Grand-Prix book by Alan HENRY (1984).
Another shot from Le Mans 1981. 512Boxer #35527 entered by the N.A.R.T. seen here during practice. Image Unavailable, Please Login
On the right in that last picture can be seen bearded journalist Denis Jenkinson (Moss's navigator on 1955-56-57 Mille Miglia). While Ferrari used nominally the same chassis numbers for 1958, 1959 and 1960, they were in fact different chassis using the same numbers for the purposes of customs carnets. The car '0003' driven by Ginther at Monza in 1960 was not the same one used by Brooks and Phil Hill in 1959, nor was it the Hawthorn car of 1958. Paul M
Oh yes ! It's him in front of maritime pine, back turned to the "track", with a large book in his hands. Gentleman diver? Yes sometimes with his friend Mike, in a bar, behind the bar's counter
