In both races Grossman drove with #17. I only had a pos.ID for car #78 for Bridghampton, so both cars drove with the same number at these 2 events. I couldn't regognize the track they were on. At Watkins Glen on September 22 Grossman finished 7th.
I believe that Peter Sachs had a 250 Monza he got from the Hutchinson Estate and Bill Serri may have owned a different car that was sold at auction recently?
I would believe Aardy is correct, the rebodied 1953 340 MM 0294 AM. This car had and still has the 3 eared knockoffs as seen in these photos. The 1954 250 Monza 0442M - Ex Stoldt, Serri, now with B. McCaw has and still has two eared knockoffs.

My goodness, look at that first picture (the black & white one). It looks like they have painted the trunks of the trees on the side of the road, to make them a bit more visible at night. The paint probably wouldn't help much if you ran into one of them. But then, if you were lucky enough to miss the trees, you would go flying off into the roof of an adjacent house!
In 1960, the #56 car was a DB/Panhard of 851cc. It finished 19th overall and averaged 75mph for the 24 hours.
From Automobile Year #8 (1960): "During practice a rear wheel of a Lotus Elite seized and in the ensuing crash the car was totally destroyed. Jonathan Sieff, son of a British chain store magnate, sustained grave injuries which kept him in hospital for months." That must be the crashed Lotus in your picture. Very enjoyable pix, thanks for posting.
I think that vintage pics are ideal to share with car lovers, look at Trintignant with a Cooper in 1960! LOL! Image Unavailable, Please Login

It WAS the Panhard Monopole X86 of Louis Hery ( he got killed in this accident). There is another photo of the wreckage here: http://fotos.iher.net/56lm51y%20Hery-Pailler%20Panhard%20X86.jpg
Sebring 1965. 275LM #6047 was driven by Walt Hansgen & Mark Donahue to an 11th place finish. This is the Mecom garage. Does Bob Dusek still own this car? Image Unavailable, Please Login
Yes, he does! Here are 2 photos I took just recently at his home. Note air intake behind rear wheel arch, unique to this LM only (compare with David Castelhano's fabulous bw photo in post #298). COPYRIGHT MARCEL MASSINI Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
