Very nice information Ed. I wonder if your ATS GTS had any racing history. . The Targa Florio car is the only one I have photos of "in action".

Fantastic photo's Ed, love them! Great era, with the pictures I can somehow imagine being there!

And srslusso, looking forward to those images. You have a beautiful 365 GT 2+2 by the way, my favourite colour combo.

Hello Ed and all: how about color photos of the same FCA national meet 1966 in Indianapolis?!

I only have 50..LOL....not due to massive research in this instance but to dumb luck thanks to Gary Wales (shown in photos two, can you tell these were much more fun times than now?) who took the photos -his copyright- with his wife back then:)

Months ago I asked him if I could post them here and he said sure: thanks Gary!

There is an amazing quantitiy of important one off or very rare cars shown such as Superfast one, Dean Batchelor's Carrera Panamericana loooong wheelbase thing -no one ever accused it of being pretty but what gravitas!- etc etc and, I think, though not sure, the gold 166 which I saw in the Christies 2000 snobble Beach auction.

Gary had sent them with his Breadvan photos when we were working on his interview.

If you want to see them please clamor like Monza tifosi when the leading McLaren spins off on the last lap:)

    best regards,

    Marc

PS: I love the fact that a Lambo is the first in the folder: not done on purpose though!

    Hi Marc,

Thanks very much to Gary and you for those great photos. Do we know who's/which dark red California that is? Did Bernie Morgan have a California?

I think that Gary's California (1203GT) is the red one visible in the group picture

No Jarrett : 1203GT is the dark red California spyder. Not the red one in the group picture...

I'm not so sure. Attached is a photo of 1203GT (when owned by Roger Adkins) and 3245GT just before the 1972 Annual Meet in Michigan. Looks kine of like the red one in the group shot.

2955GT was also at the 1966 Annual Meet, but this is a SWB, and the California in the group shot is clearly not a SWB.

    Hi Cyril,

No offense, but that response isn't very convincing. Which California is the red one in the group photos?

If you would take two seconds to see the details of the pics, you would notice that 1203GT had orange lights and a small Cavallino in the rear that no other LWB California spyder had at this period...

About the red one, I have an idea but I'm not sure...

OK, did some checking. The Red LWB California in the group picture is 0919GT of Bernard Stayman and, as Cyril stated, the dark red one is 1203GT.

Stayman's California won "Best Convertible award"

I do not believe Stayman had his SWB California s/n 2955GT at this meet, but it is possible it was there and just not in one of the photos

I agree that a gallery of old photos of then "new" Ferraris would be a really valuable reference for restorers and concours participants, especially color photos of engines and components. From following the threads here, I conclude that Ferrari apparently did a pretty poor job of documenting their build practices. But, to their credit, nobody probably thought then that we would be nitpicking design changes by serial number. There are lots of new photos of old cars that say nothing about how the cars were originally built. It would require a lot of discipline to keep the latter photos out of an "originality" gallery.
