Tongascrew: Your identification of the 250LM at the 1965 Targa posed some questions. I agree that I have always thought that #5903 ran that race as #138. However, I need someone with better eyes than I have to examine the photo, as the car in the photo appears to be Right Hand Drive, and 5903 is Left Hand Drive. Can anybody help clarify this?

Tongascrew: I think I may have answered my own question. I looked through my file on 5903 and found numerous 1965 Targa photos of the car. It was #138, but was painted red and still had the original short nose on it. The car in the photo here is a different car and a different year.

Dyke, the car shown here is 6167 at the '68 Targa Florio, not 5903 in '65.

Wayne: Thanks, this helps keep 5903's history a little clearer.

Since The 12 hours was this weekend I thought I would share this which I believe is the first 250LM and the only one built with a 3 liter motor. (Please credit Bob Drier)

Yes, 5149. Had a 3-liter engine briefly; 3.3 liter by the time of this photo (March 21, 1964).

I remember a video where O'Brian said he had about 30 gallons of gas on board. That will ruin a racer if it burns.

Here is an old one....What chassis number?? Plate should tell you about where it was and the race driver tells you it was at a track in that area.

Yes 6167 is correct. Both cars in the two separate Targa Florios had the same race #138.And of course my file for 6167 has several pictures of the car at the 1968 T.F. including one of the car in very bad shape in a field with David Piper[?] standing next to it. Thanks for setting me straight. tongascrew

In the modeling world we refer to Pipe's color as BP Green or apple green. A good way to reproduce the color with spray "rattle" cans is to use Tamiya TS16 yellow with an over spray of Tamiya clear green...works for me.
