You have a pic of the same car (I think 0301/AL) here :

What a treat to meet him. He was the epitome of what an "independent" was during the "Golden Years".He was successful in every type of race car, on every type of track, in every type competition. Ok he only won two GP events but guess where? Monaco. But it seems every major "scuderia"over the years wanted him at one time or another And he could do it all, F1,sports cars, front engine, mid engine, sprint and long distance races.rallys, you name it And there wasn't a major "scuderia"who didn't have him driving for them at some time or other often of his choosing. And above all he still with us today. tonga's crew

I assume you are referring to Maurice? At the time the photo was taken he had a very young wife at home and a new born baby. I was not privy to much of the conversation that was in French but there was a tremendous of laughter surrounding it.

this picture was posted on another forum with the legend that is was shot in Reims in 1957 mistaken in the legend of the pictures ?
What car could it be 0724,0722 ,0732 or maybe the 250 Monza # 0432M ?

here is a link also post on the same forum who helped identified the cars it's # 0722 and #0714 so my theory is that after Le Mans(june 21-22) # 0722 was send to the factory for repair was spot in Villa Real for a race (july 12-13) but between those 2 races there was the 12 hours of Reims (july 5-6)maybe other car on the truck participated to this race so the legend of the pictures that it could be taken in Reims can be correct outside a wrong year.

    Hah!

I wonder where that photo came from?

That is yours truly in February 1997 -20 years ago this month exactly tempus fugit- for a Cavallino article on this car, 0879, an opportunity which was offered by Brooks (now Bonhams) as the car was due to be auctioned in Monaco a few months later. I flew from Miami, was put up at the Brussels Hilton one night and in an ancient hotel in Stavelot the next (quite a contrast when you arrive from Florida even if you are a European!) relished driving the car around Spa although the roads were open, the circuit was not active. Alas it was pouring buckets but it was wonderful to drive it around the full old 14km course which you could still do at the time, going over a newish roundabout along the railroad tracks and through cones at Stavelot. I had this very friendly Australian girl from Brooks with me in the car, not bad company:)

Then after 36 hours in Europe back to Florida with 2 days to deliver the article in time for the April issue:)

A good memory, it is now owned by a major collector from the Modena area.

    Best regards,

    Marc
