I agree. The 312P marks the end of an era, the last beautiful Ferrari sports racer.

OMG, Tim, this photo is worth the whole thread. With a good friend, I attended the 1960 Italian G.P., the last under the out-going Formula 1. We stayed at the Hotel Lecco on the east side of Lago di Como across from Cernobbio and its world-famous luxe hotel. Hill and Richie Ginther drove the two 2 1/2 liter cars, nearest the camera, while 'Taffy' von Trips drove the third factory car, a 1 1/2 liter. All the other cars were rear-engine 1 1/2 liters, built in anticipation of the new Formula 1, including two monoposto open-wheel Porsches, which made a very weird high-pitched whistling sound as they sped past the main grandstands on the pit straight. I later learned that it was caused by their fans, lying flat on top of the engines, the tips of whose blades were spinning at close to supersonic speeds. Thanks for bringing back such recollections!

My pleasure, NZ has often been a backwater but we have had the perfect level of delay, making outdated European racecars perfectly competitive. Further many of us have Scottish heritage so we are right tighta.ses and loath to throw anything away meaning where others would have scrapped an old car of no value, we simply find somewhere to keep it. Hence our survival rate for these old cars is nearly 100%. Southwards museum is just down the road and they are full of cars that went down that path.

    Can you prove it? ;o)

FWIW, I do agree... and the location is Rue de la Brasserie, very late in 1955 or very early in 1956, I would say.
