It was red when I saw it in 1985. Very handsome car. I was very fortunate to have raced the sister car during that time. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Livanos was racing a D Type Jaguar at the time, the TRC was his back up. If the Jag stayed together at a race I got to race the TRC. When he was offered an Aston Martin DBR2 the Ferrari was sold to help fund the Aston. Concurrently Stanley Nowak showed up and purchased the TR58 I was looking after and purchased it for Ralph Lauren. Both cars to new homes, needless to say it was disappointing. At the time he owned the Aston Martin Company and the Board of Directors wasn’t happy about the very public display of him in competing brands. The TRC purchaser was part of our Vintage race team when he raced in the States. I saw the car was recently restored again.
Both Livanos and Stroll tell victim to the Green Mist and their Ferrari ownership suffered accordingly.
Well you could argue Mr. Stroll sold for the wrong reason but he mostly got out before the bottom fell out. The right thing done for the wrong reason is still the right thing.
Strollavich was not the enthusiast Livanos is. His criteria was to have a better collection than Ralph Lauren. Livanos saved Aston Martin from oblivion and has an amazing collection. Last I knew he had a fantastic 250 SWB California and owns a Ferrari Dealership. Apples and Oranges
Stroll did own a Ferrari Dealership as well, Ferrari of Quebec. I would say he really was a Ferrari enthusiast too.
I think that this thread is a better place to ask than a separate "looking for" thread, but as per tradition: Looking for... period photos or information about what -if any- damage 248SP #0806 driven by Pedro Rodriguez as number 93 at the 1962 Nurburgring 1000km had, after he spun it in a ditch in the rain on lap 7 (causing a DNF). I have photos from before the crash and after it was revived as a 196SP in 1963, but none from the spin or aftermath. Indirect information such as what was replaced later in 1962 could also be helpful. Thanks in advance! (do tell me if I should make a separate thread, I'm not that familiar with the forum policies)
In 1976 there was a mid engined Dino chassis with a body mannequin mounted on it st Luigi Chinetti Motors on 600 West Putnam Ave., in Greenwich. The entire time I worked there not much attention was paid to the project. A few years later a witnessed a conversation Coco Chinetti was having during which discussed a variety of motors which he had for the project most of which were V6s. I lost track of the car after that.
Nice footage from Sebring 1963. The end is just the roads of Florida on the way to the track. Back when Florida had very few people and hurricanes did much less damage
I was there. The field of cars and drivers was something to behold. It was Surtees’s first major race for the scuderia and Phil Hill’s first race after leaving it. The NART and Ferrari mechanics were cheering him as he led the first lap in his Cobra.
And by the way it was also Shelby’s world championship debut and several WDCs…past and future….were in the field. Truly a vintage year.
