Maybe i am overly sensitive, but i;d be PISSED OFF about http://www.barchetta.cc/All.Ferraris/events-stories/events/2005/tutto-italiano-may-22-2005/tutto-italiano-2005-gallery-1/index.html . Let's see, it has the car's vin, license plate number, the car make/model/type...

Heck, may as well just put the key SN# too and let the thieves come take the car away.

Again, maybe i am overly sensitive to having such data easily accessible online so any thief could steal my car if it was on his list.

I have to agree. On web postings owners names and license plates are blocked out for protection and as a courtesy to the owners privacy. You show them only if the owner gives permission. I respectfully ask that this submission be deep-sixed by the F-Chat police.

I would like to respectfully disagree with the previous two statements. The fact of the matter is that nothing is listed which was not publicly put on display. No one went into anyone's private garage and made anything public which was not already visible to anyone who happened to attend Tutto Italiano. All of the VINs and plates, and names, which were listed were on display along with the car. All the information that is listed was placed so that people who actually keep histories on these cars are able to do that.

However, if people feel unconfortable with having their names and liscence plates (even though anyone could figure out the plates by looking at most of the posted pictures) listed, then please contact me privately and I will have them removed from the list at barchetta.cc. Please be aware that magazines all over the world, including probably the leading magazine Cavallino, publish lists from events with car's VIN, type and owner name. And it is because, at least in part, of these lists that owners today are able to buy their cars with certainty of their history and know that they have NOT in fact been stolen, etc. How else could anyone keep histories on these wonderful machines??!

So, if you feel unconfortable with anything listed, please contact me and I will have your name and liscence plate removed from the list. Thanks

    -Jarrett

    Jarrett,

You make a good point, and this will now spur me to use proper tape to cover ALL vin numbers on the car i feel can be seen when the car is parked. Please remove my name/license plate number from any pics. Truly appreciate your enthusiasm though also value my security.

    Hi Steve,

I believe that if you feel this is necessary, then it is a perfectly fair response. Just as a note to everyone else, all owners names have been removed from the list on barchetta.cc.

    Cheers!

My opinion is that Jarett has done the right thing here based on the opinions and feedback from NE F-chatters.

Good to see we can all play nice on the internet.

I can certainly see both points of view - I'd personally be happy with the removal of names. As it happens my car didn't make it along on Sunday, I was only at the rally on the Saturday.

    Jarrett,

Many thanks my friend. My apologies if i seemed like an alarmist, yet over the years have been educated that privacy is not to be taken for granted, but being vigilant at maintaining it. Thanks again.

On a lighter note, you'd never know that Steve lives in NH - "live free or die"! :)

    Jarrett,

I too thank you for a very understanding response. Yes, there was a plaque on my car giving most of the information you described, but I am also a bit skittish about theft and the possible implications of wide distribution of information on the car and probably overreacted.

BTW, your pictures were great and I admire the painstaking detail in which you documented the event.

    Hi Guys,

No problem. I love these cars just as much as anyone, even though I am yet to own one (i'm only a senior in college). However, I believe that the more information there is avaliable the better, within certain limits. I do understand people's desire for privacy, for several of the reasons stated below, and I very much wish to respect that.

Best case scenario for me is that the owners keep driving the cars because then they get more enjoyment out of them, the cars stay better maintained, and I get to see them! I'm learning too as to what the limits are with regards to what should and should not be public information, so hopefully we have found a middle ground. Anyways, all the best

    -Jarrett
