Moretti was sighted in Melbourne this morning, sadly, his husband couldn't make it however he does appear to be enjoying himself.

    Regards,

    Carl.

Yes, it's a HK/UK spec. Makes Oz spec 308QV's seem very slow.

Whats the consensus among aussies on how to value an import car... when it's a better car for it...

    eg

UK 308 GTB carb cars are all dry sump.

UK 308QV have no emission restrictions, have better exhaust manifolds, better camshafts, better ignition map, a little less weight.

UK 328 have no cats, higher compression, better ignition, better exhaust manifolds, better camshafts etc etc

I know "same spec" cars (348 and later) are knocked down for import status, but what about "better" cars.... like this 308QV JM's looking at.

    And why.

actually it was a nice car but not without the problems that come with older cars.

Drove beautifully but lacks the punch carb cars have from standstill (even if that is only perception) but the seat needs to be lower and the wheels are TRX which may be original but need swapping with pre-89 328 wheels as they have the right concave design and are 16" which give you a better range of tyres to choose from.

Front spoiler is too low for the speed humps which were cleared very easily by PP's 355CH in the afternoon run (very surprising to me) so my trips out to Sanctuary Cove will be VERY slow.

Delightful day back behind the wheel of the older fighter jets compared to the luxobarge BMer I am condemned to driving ATM and it just confirms the addiction you get when you have owned even the lowly GT4, these cars just make you want to take them home with you :)

I must say, this is the first Carl-aligned car I have driven and is the best setup car I have ever driven, so if you want to have your car driving as good as it can he is obviously the man to do it for you no matter how much it costs.

Also ran into Q and his wife Terry the other night on Tedder and must say what a great time I had talking cars with them both, Terry is a definite car person :) and loves tracking her car, nice to meet you both, John

That makes no sense at all JM. It can only be the way you approached the bumps. Peepees 355 is lower AND has more overhang (but it is a lot stiffer).

The new tyres (TRX) on that QV do ride nicely... SO many people are driving on old crap tyres and are missing out on so much feel.

I hope the noise from the great big hole in the silencer didn't put you off too much.

well Phil, I tried several different approaches and although I cleared the riser of the hump it still slightly scapped on the descent of the humps, even taken at an angle. The 355CH was going straight on at a slightly higher speed and never came near it, I was expecting to hear that aweful scaping sound but nothing.

When Carl took me around the block I saw some lumps in the road which I was sure the spoiler would hit but it cleared them so it was a puzzle to me as well that these minor speed humps would scrape the spoiler.

The hole in the exhaust would become a nuisance on a long trip (like from Melb-QLD) but around town it sounds good but needs to have the motor turned off if you're making a mobile call.

The tyres do make the whole experience and anyone not on the right tyres is really doing themselves a disservice.

I'm finishing work early on Monday and coming down to see you guys before festivities at Chapel St with the gang.
