    Dear Learned F'chatters

I have an engine miss ('84 Mondial) and will start by replacing the very old leads and plug extenders. I have read the archives 'til my eyes were bleeding and there is lots of good stuff.

It has been suggested by a shop that Moroso leads would be the best bet. I cant find anything on the bulletin board about these so does anyone have a view if these would be a good bet? They seem to tick all of the boxes with spiral wound carbon core etc.

I doubt if the red sleeving from my original leads will be usable as it is pretty ratty, is this an issue or just go with the leads?

While doing it I was going to replace the extenders, I saw somewhere that there were different types/colours. Mine are currently Red (or pink in a couple of cases) What is the difference between the colours and which is the best one to get please? I suppose I should also ask where these are available from within the UK.

    Thanks in advance.

I was having missing problems when I got my '84 Mondi QV last year. Did the same thing. I bought a set of Magnecor 8mm wires. Great set. They fit well and work perfectly. Very good construction and come with the red wire covers on them, as well as the caps for the plug holes. As for the extenders, I actually picked up a set off of Ebay, the red/pink ones. Not expensive. They turned out to be better quality than the ones that were on there. The car now runs great. I also changed the plugs recently to NGK's and they made a nice difference as well, but that was after the wires and extenders.

    Hi Mr. Swinton,

Only a note of caution here: the electronic ignition (on my 328 at least) is very sensitive to resistance values of the wires. If you can locate cavis wire you can inexpensively rebuild your current wires.

Thanks for the help guys, I am having trouble finding anyone that will supply things that are not strictly speaking 'off the shelf'. I cant seem to find anyone who stocks the lengths of wire or hose that you need to build something yourself, it is all premade for your make and model of your car and when you say Ferrari their eyes glaze over.

I will have a look at the moroso wires and see what they look like.

Does anyone know if the wire covers are required?

    cheers

    Frank
