WTF ? First he's worried the cars are too quick now he wants to able to add hp at the touch of a button. I like the last sentence. Check this out from Pitass:

    Mosley's solution to overtaking?

    12/07/2005

Having done a 180 degree turn on the issue, FIA President, and keen overtaking fan, Max Mosley, believes he may have the answer.

The Englishman is understood to be looking at the possibility of introducing a turbo-boost button, which would give drivers up to 60 more bhp - in a sudden five second boost - which could be used at various stages during the race.

At a time when some are claiming that the proposals for 2008 appear to make F1 - the so-called pinnacle of motor sport - look more and more like a one-make series, it's worth noting that the boost button is already in use in a number of existing one-make series, and will be a features of A1 Grand Prix, which gets underway in September.

The technology behind the booster would see the cars use heat generated under braking, which would then be stored in a battery.

"This concept has had an enthusiastic response from the car makers," Mosley told The Guardian. "We want to get the emphasis away from hidden technology, whereas this would have direct relevance."

Sadly, some are already taking the idea seriously, including McLaren's Martin Whitmarsh. "It is the sort of technical challenge which we would be keen to undertake," he told The Guardian. "It's certainly something we would like to get stuck in with."

The problem, other than the aforementioned, is quite simple. This new system is still part of the "hidden technology" which Max is criticising.

When the public says it wants to see overtaking it means that it wants to see it done based on driver skill and bravery, not booster buttons, and the only way that is going to happen is to sort out the aerodynamics, the tyres and many of the circuits.

Nah too much possiblity for screwing around with those rules too. Plus the number 1 Ferrari would have 65 hp and the number two Ferrari would have 55 because he was forced to sacrifice 5 of his because of the contaract he had to sign with beazlebub .............................lol

This kind of thing should be published on theonion.com! What is Max thinking? Getting fast and furious with F1?

Is it innovative? No, it isn't. Because that is limited due to the modules being FIA issued. This is definately one of the dumbest ideas I've heard.

It is nothing new the CART champ car series has a push to pass button. The drivers are limited to be able to use it for 30-60 seconds during the entire race. The technology would not be that difficult to put into place as for 2008 the FIA wants a spec ECU for all of the cars.

In CART if the drivers use up all of the time early on they my get blasted by at the end of the race yeat a driver that saves the time and someone tries to pass them they can hit the button and block the move. It adds race stratagey to the driver not just the teams pit stop stratagey it might just make the racing more exciting.

I'd like to see the 2008 rules go into effect, or keep everything as it is and use a boost button. I really think the new rules do offer a chance to get back to the good old days, so give them a chance to succeed on their own merit.

I don't however catagorically dismiss the idea, it worked for a decade, a decade most remember quite fondly.

    From the A1GP website

    http://www.a1gp.com/racing/rules/index.php?areaid=1&childID=25

The PowerBoost system adds a whole new dimension to international motorsport and is unique to the A1 Grand Prix Series. By changing the engine's parameters, the system can give the driver an additional 30bhp over a limited time during each race. Taking the A1 Car to its maximum 550bhp, when used at the right time, the PowerBoost will encourage overtaking meaning the race leader could change on a lap-by-lap basis making even more exciting racing.

The PowerBoost function is driver activated via a button mounted on the steering wheel. Each driver will have a limited amount of time over which he can use the extra power. Once this allotted time has passed the system will become disabled - after each race the Zytek engineers will then reset the system on each car ready for the next race.

Each driver will need to use his skill to carefully manage how and when the system is used during the race.
