Sort of like genital warts, he is back in the news. From Autosport: Former FIA president Max Mosley believes that Formula 1's ban on team orders must remain, and that Ferrari should lose points for imposing them at the German Grand Prix. With Ferrari due to face a hearing of the FIA's World Motor Sport Council next month to answer charges that it breached the sport's regulations by ordering Felipe Massa to move aside for Fernando Alonso, Mosley believes action has to be taken. Speaking to German newspaper Welt Am Sonntag, Mosley said that for the sake of fans it was important the team orders ban remained. "Most teams are in favour of the ban being lifted," said Mosley. "But if one wants to fulfil the needs of the audience, then one must maintain the ban. In the event that it is brought into play by a team, we have to impose a severe punishment." Regarding the Ferrari matter, Mosley believes that further action should be taken against Ferrari beyond the $100,000 (USD) fine imposed at Hockenheim. "Both cars and both drivers should lose the points they achieved in the German Grand Prix," he said. "I will not make any recommendation, but on the facts at the moment there should have been some sporting sanction and not only a fine."
Err, Max, there is no "we"...... Just STFU and leave us all alone, please. I also think this should have a "Steve, beware" label in the title as his blood pressure is gonna be in danger
I am afraid that I entirely agree with Mosley on that one. Since a ban on team orders exists, it must be strictly enforced. In view of the huge budgets the main teams enjoy, financial penatlies are no punishment in F1, when one considers that a $100m fine to McLaren hardly dented their competitivity. Giving a $100,000 fine to Ferrari is a joke. But disqualification would be an appropriate punishment.
Arghhh now looks whats happened, Ferrari have rattled that scum Mosleys cage...arghhhhhhhh Now where are these folk that think Ferrari were right to do what they did in the manner they did......
http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/23082010/23/ferrari-threatens-civil-action.html In this Ferrari have stated to file civil action in the event of harsh punishment. Note to Ferrari - Use the money to fix a car that is not quite the class of the field. Frankly the threat only makes them look more guilty. Pathetic.
How much more guilty could they look? Ferrari just need to shut up and take their medicine, I know it is not nice when the shoe is on the other foot but... What are they going to do pull out of F1? Take their ball and go home? Start a series that only allows red cars? I guess this topic needs its own thread Anyway it does sound like Ferrari knows that they are cooked and the points will be taken at the WMSC meeting.
How does Moseley know that a majority of the F1 Fans support a ban on team orders? Knowledgeable F1 fans know team orders/strategy are as old as the sport - drivers used to be flagged in to give the team leader their car in the ancient days. They also know that there really is no way to effectively enforce this ban. Casual F1 fans probably just don't give a damn as long as they go fast and make noise. I would say that a majority of F1 fans who know who Moseley is/was want him to shut up.
Jaja. We need more of ze punishment. Mach schnell! After all there is no greater expert when it comes to ze punishment and itz application.
I for one hope Ferrari will just take a stand against this type of FIA fascism. There were no teamorders handed out. Just some information. I cannot believe how much the people want them to be teamorders, just so Ferrari can be punished, but when all is said and done, it was not a teamorder. Massa decided to roll over and give way to Alonso. Fine. His decision. No harm done.
Well, at least the RIGHT FIA Fuehrer spoke out. Precisely. If somebody can proove otherwise, I'd like to see the evidence. Spot on.
Right now it is more important for Ferrari and the FIA to look at the bigger picture. The negotiations for a new Concorde Agreement will kick off next year. It will not help ONE single bit making a meal out of this. Ferrari cocked up !accept the punishment/ fine whatever and move on.!
What I hope we can get out of this farce is a better definition of the rules, thanks to that gob ****e Mosley and his vague rules we have these problems.
"His decision." Does anyone really believe that? "No harm done?" It ruined my enjoyment of watching the race and I'm sure it did the same for many others. If they had fought it out and Alonso got by him, that would have been great. So I just turned the TV off at that point.
Massa is a free man. He had a choice and he made it. Nobody put a gun to his head or forced his foot off the gas. Too bad, but satisfying all the requests of your enjoyment is not the team's #1 priority. ...it could have ended up in tears a la RedBull in Turkey. Team orders are stupid and another relict of the Mad Max period, that should get tossed out.
I don't know his contract and I'm not pretending here anything. Fact is that he is a free man (as is any driver). Or do you believe they would murder his first born? A driver can have a million excuses for why he didn't follow team orders. I haven't seen one case yet where a team took a driver to court. All they can do is throw him out of the team, which is something they can do at any point anyhow. As Massa said himself after Hockenheim: He'll never do it again. So how draconian can the punishment then really be?
Firstly, Max, go away! Question, How does team orders hurt the sport if you are running 1-2? I meen its about Championships, Drivers and Constructors. Ferrari as a team did not gain by Alonso passing Massa
Right here BTW why is it that folks with their heads up their arses insist on opening their mouths so wide
In my well considered opinion, both drivers should loose driver points, and then the team should also be penalized both driver points and another 10 points on top of it all. This is the kind of penalty that will cause the rule to be obeyed. The penalty for imposing team rules durring a race is worse than if both cars failed to finish. {The only other course of events is to terminate the rule.}
Two things, Mosely gets quoted because he gets asked. In this case, shoot the messenger. Ferrari screwed up, take away points, a public flogging of LdM, a scarlet "A" on Alonso's forehead, and then let the subject go away. BTW, I forgot who questioned Mosely's knowledge of what F1 fans want, but in every poll I have read, including the one taken by FOCA, the greater percentage of fans were against team orders. They want to see a race. Me too, team orders suck.
Two more things, you can go pound sand and so can Max. I can't believe all the naive postings here, Ferrari did nothing and the FIA will do nothing.
