No shock there; would love to be a fly on the wall in the room tomorrow....

    http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/76485

    Quote:

A defiant Max Mosley has told the FIA that he now has no option but to consider standing once again as president, in light of what he sees as an 'unjustified' attack on the governing body by Formula 1 teams and manufacturers.

Ahead of what is being viewed as a key meeting of the FIA's World Motor Sport Council in Paris on Wednesday, where the governing body is expected to react to plans by F1 teams to create a breakaway series, Mosley has made it clear that he will not be forced to walk away by the wishes of teams.

In a letter that Mosley sent to all FIA member clubs on Tuesday, he insisted that it was entirely up to the members of the governing body to decide if it wants him to continue to help stave off the threat posed by teams.

"Over recent weeks it has become increasingly clear that one of the objectives of the dissident teams is that I should resign as president of the FIA. Last year you offered me your confidence and, as I wrote to you on May 16, 2008, it was my intention not to seek re-election in October this year," wrote Mosley in the letter, a copy of which has been seen by AUTOSPORT.

"However, in light of the attack on the mandate you have entrusted to me, I must now reflect on whether my original decision not to stand for re-election was indeed the right one.

"It is for the FIA membership, and the FIA membership alone, to decide on its democratically elected leadership, not the motor industry and still less the individuals the industry employs to run its Formula 1 teams."

Mosley has told the member clubs that he views the breakaway plans and recent comments from the European car industry association ACEA calling for a change of governance in F1, as an assault on the FIA's authority.

"This is an attack on the FIA's right to regulate its Formula 1 World Championship but, worse, it is a wholly unjustified criticism of and direct challenge to the entire structure and purpose of the FIA," added Mosley.

"No president of the FIA could allow this to go unanswered...we are also preparing legal proceedings in case these are needed to protect the FIA's rights in its Championship and to discourage any dissident Formula 1 team from engaging in illegal acts."

Mosley has also cast doubts on whether the parent board of the manufacturers involved in the breakaway will be happy to offer financial support to a new series.

"The catalyst for the current dispute was the FIA's attempts to reduce costs in Formula 1. A reduction in costs is essential if the independent teams are to survive.

"Without the independent teams, the championship would depend entirely on the car manufacturers who, of course, have always come and gone as it suited them.

"It is extraordinary that at a time when all five manufacturers involved are in great financial difficulty and relying on taxpayers money, their Formula 1 teams should threaten a breakaway series in order to avoid reducing their Formula 1 costs.

"It remains to be seen whether the boards of the parent companies will allow precious resources to be wasted in this way."

One minute he says one thing, next minute another....... dropping legal threats, now saying (and not surprised at all) - "we are also preparing legal proceedings in case these are needed to protect the FIA's rights in its Championship and to discourage any dissident Formula 1 team from engaging in illegal acts."

Isn't this the answer FOTA is awaiting????
A defiant Max Mosley has told the FIA that he now has no option but to consider standing once again as president, in light of what he sees as an 'unjustified' attack on the governing body by Formula 1 teams and manufacturers.

BUT, don't forget Max has already said that his replacement will be worse than him.

OR will tomorrow be just another day with yet another date for something of significance to occur in a week or two???? (makes time fly for sure!)

Yo Max, if you want to see the source of the "threat", check a mirror.

... and brought the fans with them.

... and don't put up with being pushed around by a power-mad martinet like a cash-strapped privateer team would.

It's the spec rules that are driving away the manufacturers. Apparently, that was the purpose.
To remake F1 to be a spec series of private teams that can be bullied.

    But that wouldn't be F1.

Gee, I must have missed seeing the Ford, Chrysler, or GM on the grid.
Ferrari? BMW? Did Pelosi include them in the "bail out"?

Given this announcement, I would be extremely surprised if Max hasn't already lined up enough support to virtually guarantee re-election. A sad day for the FIA and Formula 1.

Nah, this was a campaign letter by Max -- who would say this even if he knew he was the one in the plane with no parachute. ;)

    Well put.
Max is in a corner (whether he was put there or put himself there doesn't matter now) and short of resigning he has to go all in.
Tomorrow's vote will tell if F1 remains a viable series of if the FOTA teams will start their own series. Max will be out or will be emperor of a non-existent kingdom.
I guess it was too much to expect for him to become either rational or honorable at this late date.
    Sad really.

Lets hope the other members of the FIA are smart enough to realize that Mosley is the main problem and do not re-elect him.

Actually hope he stays to be honest,

Ironically for the same reason why the allies decided to not knock Maxs idol Adolf Hitler off via assassination in the late stages of WW2. Max's uncontrollable Ego and arrogance will lead to him meddling and making stupid and incompetent actions that will ultimately harm FIA interests and leave FOTA with absolutely no choice but to carry on with their breakaway series.

I say to hell with the CVC controlled and FIA spec F1 series next year , bring on the new FOTA racing series!!!

No pain no gain and unfortunately we the fans have to stomach have some chaos and disorder right now which hopefully will lead to a better and brighter future for F1 racing.

The classical Arabic fable about the Phoenix rising from the ashes comes to mind

I *really* hope you're right. Given the importance of tomorrows vote, at least in the eyes of us here in the peanut gallery, I dug up the "charter" and make-up of the WMSC - My emphasis added:

What *really* concerns me is that the majority of these turkeys have been put there by the lunatic himself and ergo he may be able to carry the "vote of confidence"...... The "representative of Ferrari SpA" will be a dissenting voice, but will he (LdM Presumably?) be able to get enough support?

I'm just not sure which way it's going to go - Unfortunately.

    Cheers,
    Ian

A "defiant" Max Mosley? even considering the man hasn't a shred of dignity me thinks he's a bit dense.
Get the F out is pretty much the deal here Max.
Personally I hope the FOTA thing plays out with a new series, I don't care what they call it. I'll be buying tickets if so.
