Thank you That’s magic!
When I was 22, I started my business in a horse barn, with the singular goal to acquire a Ferrari, (specifically a 458 if doable) before I turned 30. After 7 years and many other smarter financial and business decisions; a few days ago I took home my dream car. Here is my 2012 458! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hey all. Hopefully this is the right forum to ask a question. I'm new here, and relatively new Ferrari Owner. My car is a 2011 458 Italia and I'm stumped with a noise the car makes. Hoping someone in this forum has experienced this or has some thoughts. When rolling to a stop, I (sporadically) get this very loud noise, seems to be coming from the rear. It only happens when rolling very slowly and coming to a stop. It seems to stop when the vehicle is at a full stop. I uploaded a video here... I can't tell whether it is brake system or gearbox related (or something altogether different). This doesn't happen every time, which makes it more aggravating. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated! Thank you! Pat.
I have never experienced anything or heard anything like that at all in my short ownership. I had a 15 Italia for over a year, 3500 miles driven. Never had anything like that happen. Now have a Speciale and also trouble free so far. There are very knowledgeable people on here, as well as the Facebook 458 owners/enthusiasts page to consider sharing this with. May also be worth starting a completely new thread so it doesn’t get buried in a thread that doesn’t draw as much attention. I had a rattle under my seat when I first got my Italia so I know how much the experience changes when you have an issue, but I bet you someone has some good advice for you. Thank you! Much appreciated. For whatever reason, I can’t seem to post a new thread, I can only “reply” to others, which is why I replied here. Otherwise would also be my preference. If anyone has any thoughts as to why I can’t post, that would be helpful as well
After listening to your video my first thought would be brake pressure. Have you tried doing this by just downshifting to a slow crawl or do you notice anything in your brake pedal? Your ideas seem correct unfortunately. Its been said that the 2010's especially had the gearbox concerns but those were resolved although yours could still fall in that trap also? Hope not. I would have liked to see this posted with its own thread but you are having problems doing that. Let us know what you do. Ferrari should be able to diagnose it without too much trouble.
I never experienced this issue but i can feel something is moving like a fan maybe. I recommend to to take to an approved shop who might detect it with you.
I have a 458 Spider from 2014. I have the same issue with my car just the noise is more shorter and very rarely. I could not describe this noise to our approved shop nor demonstrate the noise to them as it appears irregularly and rarely. I tried to record it , but quite difficult to guess when the noise would appear again. So I live with it Till now. For my car the noise appears when coming to a stop like yours. I will send your video to my approval shop and tell them that I finally found the sound of the noise how it sounds. Thanks for sharing your video. Keep you guys informed what the result will be.
Sorry to hear you are having similar issues, but good to know someone else has experienced it. I will show your note to the technician when I bring it in this week. Will keep you updated. Please do the same.

I’m about 8 months into my 2013 458 spider. No issues at all really so far, has been a fantastic car… only problem with mine is the rubber around all the interior switches is a bit melted and sticky to the touch, and the steering wheel has a little squeak to it from the same issue of the sticky rubber behind its mounting. Dealer quoted me $11k for a place that sands it all down for a complete re-coating and to laser engrave all the labels back into it…. I thought a bit much so just leaving it alone for now.
My 458 had the service done and the previous owner paid about $9k I would probably wait until you are ready to sell the car before doing sticky buttons or if you do it, just make sure you always have clean hands without oils/lotion or use driving gloves.
Hello I know in my country who can reshape it with laser machine.. am not sure in your area and you check in YouTube how do they do it. Look in your area the nearest shop will assist in this.
That sounded kind of like a pump to me. Great that you were able to record it in case you can't duplicate while you're at the shop.
Anyone in the Los Angeles/Beverly Hills area own or know a metallic gray 458...that played chase with a black Alfa Giulia on Benedict Canyon on Satirday the Feb. 11th? After looking at lots of pictures, I'm fairly certain it was a 458...though I only saw it from the rear. We were headed north about 3 pm...suddenly the traffic in front of us disappeared. The Ferrari took and I followed suit. Neither of us were "racing" each other, more enjoying the moment together and letting our cars have some fun. When we got to Mulholland, the Ferrari driver signaled he was going east, and I was going west. We shared thumbs up for each other and it was suddenly over. Anyway, if you know the car and owner, give him my regards.
Is that a recommendation for prevention or adaptation? I wonder if there really is anything that can be done. That coating that's on there is the same stuff that I had on a laser pointer I had for presentations. I left that in a dark drawer in a climate controlled office for years not really using it and it degraded within 10 years the same way as with our cars, so I am inclined to say that the process is inevitable for the car. My 2015 458 is starting to show the earliest stages along the steering column. I am not looking forward to treating all this. Would rather get some HRE wheels.
NVO board replacement (without dealer proxy file extortion!) Search aliexpress for this item number: 1005004402633422. After checkout tell them you have LEDs on your steering wheel. Why is this good to know? Ordering the NVO board from here is less than $500 USD and it comes plug and play! If you get the board from one of the several preferred Ferrari parts vendor, the board alone is $600-700, plus the $3k or so that the dealer will charge for the proxy file.
