Any pictures of the Marriot collection? I knew he had a huge Porsche collection but I haven't heard anything about Ferraris. The Marriot family just donated a huge chunk of change to add to one of the buildings on campus. Thats probably why they have a basketball arena and the business school named after them.

This is from when the car belonged to the late David Clarke, one of the nicest guys I have ever known. At this time as well as the P4 he had a 212 Inter and a 250 GT Lusso. Kept in a large 'ordinary' garage in Montsorrel with lots of other cars he was looking after. Amazing. You will see he was not too precious about the P4 :) I never got to ride in it, but enjoyed a few trips in the other two cars. I have some photos of those somewhere if people are interested.

Great to see the P4 from that period. People are always interested in pictures, more please!

Along with the P4 (0856) David Clarke also had >
    1951 212 Export by Vignale
    1962 250 GTO (3869)
    1963 250 GT Lusso (4845GT)
    1963 250 GT 2+2 (4887GT)
    1965/6 365 P2/3 (0826)
On the P2/3 he had the road plate "4PH"
For many years his personal mechanic Robert Houghton kept the Ferrari collection in fine form.

Give me all Porsche, Ferrari, Mclaren, Ducati, "Dauer" Porsche, NSX the rest is irrelevant to me, well not really because that could be sold to keep the collection perfect.

That's not a collection, that's evidence of mental illness. Seriously, there's some terrible emotional problems at play behind the decision to hoard that many cars in warehouses as he does. As much as I love cars and defend one's right to own what they wish, I think that list tells a very sad story.

Agreed, Cars must be driven and maintained to 'live', the warehouse is more of a morgue (or a hospital where terminal cars go to rot). Just happy he does not appreciate the great cars of the golden ages. GJ

    Answer :
Well , the largest Ferrari collection is owned by Lorenzo Zambrano (mexican), who also owns CEMEX (Cementos Mexicanos [NYSE: CX]), one o the largest cement companies in the world.
He's got 15 vintage Ferraris including a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO that belonged to Nuccio Bertone.

There was a guy here in the U.S. that during the Ferrari boom of the late '80s to early '90s had over one hundred Ferraris, it included five F40s, thirty nine Testarossas, etc. His collection was over eight hundred cars and I think his last name was Moore.

That was Jerry J. Moore, who was a real estate developer based in Texas. I don't know what happened to his car collection after he died in 2008.

Googled Mr. Moore and found this interesting '88 NYT article: A RED-HOT MARKET IN VINTAGE CARS

    snippets:

    Moore...

"...King of the collectors is Jerry J. Moore, the 60-year-old Houston shopping-center tycoon. At last count, Moore's collection, which may be the world's most valuable, numbered 660 automobiles. In November 1986, Moore sold his crown jewel, a 1931 Bugatti Royale Berline de Voyage, for which he had paid $6.5 million in June, to Thomas Monaghan, founder and chairman of Domino's Pizza, for $8.1 million..."

    foretells the muscle car craze...

"...cars like the mid-60's Pontiac GTO, Plymouth Barracuda and Dodge Charger are destined to escalate. ''Right now you can get into a GTO for $7,000 to $9,000,'' he says. ''Three years from now it should be worth twice that.''..."

    and ebay motors...

"...''You know the stock ticker all the stock brokers are always glued to?'' says Marvin Friedman. ''Well, I predict that the day is not far off when we'll see a ticker flashing by listing a Ferrari Boxer - 1983 - bid - ask - condition of car and so forth. That's where this market is headed.''..."

I find this to be a bit humorous, as I know three people in Kuwait with collections AT LEAST 3 times larger, and just as varied and likely much more valuable. They just don't advertise them...
