Has anyone been to see the Matsuda collection? There is a collection in Japan with a burgundy McLaren F1 longtail, and an orange McLaren F1 LM. I am wondering if they belong to Mr. Matsuda.

Also, is the Matsuda collection open to the public? If so, where in Japan is it?

    Many thanks!
    Faisal.

I am very good friends with the guy who built McCaw's collection and apparently, that was incredible before he started selling it off. At the moment, it probably has to go to someone like Matsuda.

For the record, I must say that I am not too attached to the notion of a collection, particularly a large one. By sheer definition, a car collection insinuates cars gathered for owning not driving. And even if they are driven "regularly," how often is that? Once a month? Twice? It really pains me to see these cars sit idle. On the other hand, though, it really is incredible when someone lets you into his or her warehouse and you can simply walk from one incredible example to the next and those that share their collections do a tremendous service to those of us who love cars.

Andrew you mind posting the f-cars your dad owns. If I remember correct ENZO, f40, 275, and I don't remember what else. Does he let you drive them? That would be awesome to take the F40 out at night. That is a sweet collection if I say so myself.

    Brian,

Mr. Shirley opened up his garage to the local FCA this past February and unfortunately I missed the event. I'm sure you could get in if you were accompanied by a local FCA member since some events allow guest(s).

Speaking of McCaw selling off his collection, here's his F355 spider for sale at Park Place Ltd.

Alberto Garnerone has to have one of the coolest features for his garage along with a pretty substantial collection.
Caption for picture:"A thick crystal disk set up on the premise that is 80,000m² in size. A large number of sport cars are kept right beneath the parked Enzo."
another exerpt:The owner of Enzo Ferrari, us three (the crew comprising an editor, cameraman and coordinator), and a black "Ferrari 575M Maranello" stood on a disk made from thick crystal glass and 7.3m in diameter. It is part of a quiet grand mansion built on the premise that is 80,000m² in size.
Together with a low buzzing mechanical sound, a fence begins to rise from the circumference of the crystal disk. When the partition that separated the disk from the outside is completed, the transparent floor with four persons and a car on it rises a bit and, in the next instance, begins to descend!

Sorry, the collection belongs to Mr. Shin Okamoto, not Matsuda(my mistake)
I know he owns a white McLaren F1(bottom left) and his warehouse is located at Mt. Rokko, Japan. His collections are open to memebers of ferrari club japan once a year.
