I have a friend who spent several years in West Virginia. He crossed paths with friend of a friend who lived in Point Pleasant back in the 1960s. He made mention of Mothman to her. She became very noticeably alarmed. It turns out that she was one of the dozen or so people that ACTUALLY SAW the Mothman back in the 1960s. She saw it standing outside near the woods in her backyard. It apparently flew off as she watched it. She said that the sighting still scares her to this day. This same lady was interviewed for a documentary on Mothman a few years ago. My friend was watching TV one day and was amazed to see the same lady on the documentary that he had personally talked to several years earlier. He knew her by name.

We've all heard tall tales before that are 14 times removed from the source, but I consider it interesting that I know someone who personally talked to someone who ACTUALLY SAW the Mothman.

All I know is that is one CREEPY film. One of my favorites - and totally underrated as a horror flick.

I try not to "contaminate" the study of strange phenomenon with too much Hollywood influence. Most of the time it will only help to water down the legitimate study of any particular phenomenon. The "X-Files" TV series is a good example. It made for great TV viewing and entertainment, but I always wondered why a TV network would rather devote one hour each week to a FICTIONAL program when they could have set a media shattering precedence with a one hour investigative program to research the REAL UFO situation. But that's in keeping with the nature of things these days. Kids would rather sit on the couch and play video games instead of going outside and tossing a REAL football.
