Well Art, Rossi 1.4 secs faster than Hopkins in official qualifying. Sly old fox, had been riding well within his abilities all qualifying, then pulls a blinder with about 5 minutes of the session left and garages the bike.
Big surprise for me was Melandri who qualified 3rd, still over 0.7 sec off Rossi's pace.
We still have to see what the race brings, but I don't see the Suzuki's even running top 5 after qualifying in the second half of the field.

Huge thumbs up to Shinya Nakano. As far as Hopkins goes, even I'm surprised he was that far down the list. Rossi credited his tires for his qualifying domination. I believe Hopkin's tires may be at fault for his slower time. He has been working on qualifying setup quite a bit and I think that was because his qualifying tires aren't the best. The only sure thing about tomorrow is that I will be watching the race!

I'm watching Hopkins about to be lapped by Gibernau and Rossi. Suzuki may have improved, but so has everybody else! The lap record in a race has dropped by well over 2 seconds.

Any one who enjoys watching good, hard racing shouls make the switch to motogp. what a race, the last couple of laps were breath taking. Valentino was stalking gibernaeu for the whole race, he waited until the secont last lap to make his move, in the middle of the last lap he out braked himself, recovered and was dicing with giberaeu until the last corner which he took the lead, gibernaeu went on the grass, and rossi done a wheelie of the whole main street. he had about 120,000 spanish booing him, but he showed them who is the best...

I watched the race last night - talk about final lap climaxes!

...wonder if there will be a pilot's meeting next week to vote against Rossi's overtake ;)

I must say that I thought Rossi made a mistake on the final corner and it is unfortunate that he took off Gibernau. Rossi is usually such a class character, but I think he owes Gibernau an apology. It looks like it's going to be a really close battle if Rossi has to resort to these desperate tactics to win the races. Looking forward to Portugal!! :)

don't agree. as he said, that's racing. it's what F1 used to be like 15 years until the marketing men started to run it. i'm glad gibernau did'nt appeal. he's being a man about it and probably realised that he left too much room. afterall if he'd held a tighter line rossi would not have been able to get where he got to. good for rossi, spectacular racing move.

Hmmm. I'm a great defender of 'robust racing techniques' but I think Rossi went too far on that corner. I don't think Rossi would have made the corner himself if he didn't have Gibernau to bounce off! Totally agree with you that Gibernau is being a true gent about the whole incident. I assume he is saving his anger for the next race rather than a press conference!
