Does anybody have any experience with Moton dampers (shock absorbers) on their late model Ferraris or race cars? They are supposed to be very good racing dampers. Thanks in advance for your input.

    Hi wayne

Yes, used them on the 550 GTS ex Rafanelli.

Once fully understood they are as good as a Penske, meaning they work very well....

But, (like Penske) they leak gas from their cannisters quite quickly, and the adjustment can be very confusing... as different adjustments counter rotate to each other, and /or effect each other. It's VERY easy to get lost with adjustments, and/or to lose gas pressure and confuse things further. (This is based on more than two sets of shocks.. they were all similar in their use)

IF you had a full time dedicated shock engineer, with a shock dyno and all servicing equipment... I'd say they would be as good as any other shock.

If you want to run on the best performing, consistant, easy to use and adjust shocks, without needing US$100K dyno and equip... it's Ohlins all the way. NO CONTEST.

Ohlins adjusters all turn the same way and are colour coded. One click is one click, no matter where you are in the range (which is huge). The cannisters don't leak.. (I checked one set after 2 years.. still ok).

The parts are available and the dealer network is fairly extensive.

of course, the original internal spec is important, and they are expensive.

Best money you'll ever spend on your car though.

Here's a pic of a rear TT44 Ohlin installed to a 360C. This is an early car, using a more elaborate top bracket, but this can be simplified to save costs.

The adjusters seen are Gold... Low speed bump. Silver..... Rebound. The hose goes off to a cannister which controls the whole shock, and the shaft has a High speed bump adjuster.

Thanks for the info. They leak? Hmmm... not good for sure. In spite of this I'm still considering Moton because it uses OEM 360C mount+springs. And they are available quickly, so I can have them for the Oct race.

Maybe it's my driving but I find OEM 360C dampers are useless if you try to ride the curbs. BTW Philip's Stradale uses Moton, and his car is significantly faster through the turns as you witnessed in Shanghai.

    Regards,

Yes, the std 360C shocks are useless... but the spring rate is also highly influential.

You can run radically different spring rates and really change the car.

But of course, with an adjustable shock, you have so many more things to play with.

You should consider upgrading the data logger system to incorporate 4x suspension position/velocity sensors.

This way, a shock engineer can tell from your data exactly what's needed... or what's wrong (ie gas leaked out!!)

I know its old, sorry for bringing it back up...but I'm looking at doing a very similar setup on a 360Ch.

Ohlins TT44, however I have to measure if the attached reservoir will fit, otherwise the remote reservoir is much easier.

    Ferrarifixxer I pm'd you.

I've had a lot of experience recently with Ohlins (worked with Ohlins usa actually) and I'm looking forward to having them on a 360ch, should be a great combo.

Anyone else have experience with Ohlins on 360ch?

I was thinking ttx40's, but they are a bit too much money, and too much adjustments...the 2/3 way tt44 is more than enough for club use.
