Friends, today I decided to check the clutch wear on my 1999 355F1 utilizing the Galileo Diagnostic Tool. While interfacing with the TCU I decided to check for error codes and found a 'Motor Ignition Relay Error' (error code 2110). The car starts and runs fantastically well without any shifting issues whatsoever and no warning lights on the dash. Any idea what relay this might be? Is it possibly related to the relay discussed here by Qavion?: F355 F1 Starter (enable) Relay Location Query | FerrariChat. If this relay was malfunctioning I would have expected the car would not want to crank. Thanks in advance for any help folks can provide.

If the message is related to that relay, maybe the F1 TCU is expecting to see a particular starter relay coil resistance (and it's just slightly out of tolerance).

When you turn the ignition key to start, it sends 12 volts to pin 27 of the TCU and to pin 30 of the starter relay.....

If the start logic has been satisfied, the TCU outputs 12 volts to the coil of the starter relay (via a diode bridge) from TCU pin 30. The relay energises and 12 volts goes to the starter. Also 12 volts goes back to the diode bridge which latches the voltage on the coil.

I suppose there could be something wrong with the diode bridge.

Maybe you could try cleaning the relay contacts first and try swapping the relay with another one (if there is one with the same part number). I assume the diode bridge also has pins you could clean, although I can't recall where it is located (probably somewhere in that general area). A multimeter should tell you if the diodes are ok.

Thank you, very helpful! Will see about testing the relay and diode bridge in question.

To follow up, I pulled the F1 starter enable relay and compared it to a new relay (Bosch 0332019103). When comparing the old vs. new, the resistance between pins 85 and 86 was slightly higher on the old relay (80 ohms vs. 70 ohms) otherwise they were identical with appropriate function when 12V was applied. Decided to swap out the relay, and the "motor ignition relay error" has not returned after several restarts. Again, the car started fine pre/post relay swap. Suspect Ian was correct that relay coil resistance difference may have been what was triggering the code. Thanks Ian!
