    You guys might think this is crazy but I have Fabspeed headers and my mounts fried about every 5k miles. My mechanic was at a parts place and found the 456 "updated" mounts would fit, and they have this cool retainer piece that keeps the engine from sagging when it fails. I don't have a pic, and not sure if they're for the auto or manual 456. Daniel might be able to help.

    10k miles and still no sticky throttle, or clunking motor mounts. Hope this helps.

    Part number? Cost? I read somewhere for the 355 upgrade to the challenge mounts.

    Guys, for the last time (hopefully ;) ), this is a thread about 348 mounts.

    Or are you pulling our chains?

    The OP requested info on 348 mounts (see post #1)

    So no (unfortunately), 355 upgrade info does not help for the 348. :(

    Crap, my bad. Sorry! For some reason I automatically assume all problem threads in this section are about the 355!! ;)

    A casual observer would come to the same conclusion. :)

    However, when it comes to the price problem of motor and gearbox mounts, the 348 trumps the 355 every time.

    Bumping this a couple of years later...
    Is OEM the only way to go for 348 engine mounts? The prices seem to have risen lately as well. $600+ per mount is a bit steep, looking if there are any good suppliers out there that we may not be aware of. Thanks!

    Still trying to see if there's an interchange out there, anyone? I've read of people using modified mounts from the 360.
    The Ferrari California uses mount 269817 and the 612 uses 196746 which look similar to the 348. They're much easier to find but I have no idea if their dimensions are remotely close to each other.

    When I did my F355 engine+tranny mounts, I changed to the Challenge parts.

    Do Challenge mounts work for the 348?

    From parts diagrams I would say no.
    I did not realize initially you had a 348.
    Was just adding to what Mitch said.
    I need to start putting 355 in the title of threads just for people like me who do not read.

    Could always try rebuilding them yourself with some fill. Plenty of kits out there.

    Kits to rebuilt mounts? Have any links?
    I haven't seen any code indicating who fabricated the OEM mounts. I've seen some other models stamped with Fibet, who's still in business.

    Lots of kits out there. You just have to source the right pieces. Or, pour your own.

    The short story:

    And the longer (verbose) version:

    Solid mounts wouldn't be a problem? I had read something about 2nd order harmonics so thought the inner spring is critical in the mount.
    Here's a pic I had saved (not mine) and an explanation from another forum:

    "They are motor mounts by definition as they are the only thing that holds up the engine. No question there.

    They are also pretty good vibration dampers. The inclusion of the spring allows the support and damping functions to be separated and that allows considerably more optimization than is possible in more traditional designs that rely on a visco-elastic material for both and really let you optimize anything but the production cost.

    I designed something very similar years ago for a graduate project. The Prof had invented and prototyped and electric generating furnace:
    https://www.google.com/patents/US4262209

    which used a 1 cyl engine……and vibrated itself and its rubber mounts across the floor. The heart of the problem was that the natural frequency of the system was way too high (aka way to close to the engine’s operating frequency) which allowed way to much energy to be transferred to the floor. The solution was to support the engine on a spring/damper system that oscillated about an order of magnitude below even the cranking frequency….. and transmitted about 1% the vibration energy that the original design transmitted.

    The Ferrari flat crank engine, like a 4 cyl is inherently balanced to the 2nd harmonic ( kind of rough) vs the Ferrari 12s that like a straight 6 are inherently balanced to the 3rd (very smooth) harmonic so by Ferrari standards the V8 cars run pretty rough. US V8s do a little better by using a 90 degree crank to allow them to damp the 3rd harmonic at specific rpm ranges but that costs hp, which is a trade off Ferrari wasn't willing to make nor where they willing to accept the vibration the V8s where making…..so they spent money on motor mounts that included a better damping system so even thought the engines were rough no one would ever know it and they'd feel like Ferraris"

    Interesting.

    So based on the price and appearance of the 348 mount, one can suggest that it contains a spring. Whereas the F355 version is much simpler.

    Anyone ever disassemble a 348 mount?

    The pic I posted seems to be a 308 mount made by Fibet, I haven't been able to find any disassembled 348 mount pics.

    I had a supplier provide me with dimensions for the 348 mount, waiting to hear back if anyone will provide with dimensions for the California/612 mounts.
    A= 13,5cm
    B= 10cm
    C= 2,5cm
