Depends how smooth the road is. Bikes really want to stay straight and level until acted on by an outside force (pothole, for example). Mine will stay straight with no hands without issue and I can steer with small amounts of lean pretty effectively. I certainly don't make a habit of it, though.

I have ridden without hands for few seconds many times, but it is not safe. Your reaction time is always increased. It is a bad habit to have.

Bigger bikes with more rake and trail, on a smooth road with good tires could do this for miles on straight stretches if the throttle is locked. Trail designed into chassis means the wheel naturally wants to be straight, not unlike caster wheels on a shopping cart.

The part you didn't notice is that his eyes are closed too. :)

I've done it to stretch my arms and wrists. If that back has some sort of cruise control that they offer now, definitely doable but stupid.

I will do it when coasting towards a light. Good way to relax and stretch out for a few seconds. Not sure I would do it on the highway (or if I had cruise control). But for the little bit that I do it the bike is perfectly stable.

I miss riding.. winter needs to be over!

That photo reminded me of this video. I'm sure he's dead by now: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sgIF-0DiXl4

I wouldn't even feel safe driving in a car on those roads in India based on that video with the other cars ignoring lane markers let alone ride a motorcycle like that!
