What a great experience and a great group of guys! And the 599 is an absolutely amazing machine. I got a 200MPH ride while having a nice quiet conversation with the driver. Nearly silent. "Gumball-ing" it from AZ to Vegas the 599 delivered a 5 star experience, all of the other cars were loud, bouncy, and obnoxious on such a long trip at speed. Ultimate "big daddy" Ferrari.

Personally I think the 599 could have gotten better numbers if I let them do more than a lap or 2. Amazing it did as well as it did. Beat the GTR (which has R compound tires) on a tight race course!!! They did about a gazillion laps in each of the other cars.

That GTR incident - unbelievable composure and skill from the driver (that happened _in_ the turn). The whole back of the car was dragging on the ground. Horrifying.

But ... I liked the GT2 the best. Guess I'm more boy racer than big daddy.

Tires seem to be an issue with several of the cars. However it is obvious Chevy spent the money where it mattered and is reaping the rewards now. I wonder if that GT2 is still running on it's original clutch?
Interesting comparison but loses something without the Viper ACR present. Maybe the press car was sick.

So was this the Motor Trend test someone was asking about in the other thread?

I guess the car survived, eh?

It was my thread but I never got the call back from MT. Like I said, I was pretty sure they could find a 599 closer to LA than mine. They obviously did just that. I would have jumped at the chance at taking my car to a speedway in a controlled environment and pin the needle at +200mph. In an earlier life I actually got to do that back in 1986 with my brand new 86 TR. Don't know how accurate the speedo was. Pegged it at 193mph. It was a hell of a rush. I'm sure the owner of the 599 in the MT comparo would agree.

I would encourage any owner who has a similar oppt to jump on it. How else will you get the chance to safely ride at 200MPH in your own car? Very fun experience, lots of stogie smoking, and they were gentle with the car. I'm postive it would have laid down better times if I was willing to let them thrash it. He got only 1 at-speed lap in the 599.
