Can anyone show me a picture or illustration of how the charcoal canister is suppposed to be mounted in a 308QV? I am replacing mine and while I'm at it, I want to mount it correctly.

Appreciate any pics y'all may have!

It's highlighted on the page 79 fold out in your owner's manual.

Mike / Malcolm, appreciate your help. The reason for my question is mine was strapped into the rear of the engine bay with a large hose clamp. I was curious if there was a fixture, a factory clamp, a holder etc that should be used.

What was in my car when I bought it was a Rochester charcoal canister, the same one that's in my 1971 Camaro SS! What complicates my situtation is I was not able to find a Ferrari charcoal canister and am replacing mine with another Rochester.

    Thoughts?

It is mounted in the very rear right side of the engine bay to the right of the injection unit on the back side of the frame rails.

I just ripped mine out so you are welcome to it (Cannister)and 1/2 the bracket as the other half is welded to fram rails. (83 qv)

    Paul,

I looked and looked for a "Ferrari" canister...one ended up being a little more than I wanted to spend. Ended up buying a replacement through Year One for $62.00.

I'll look in my engine bay this evening for a bracket to the right of the injection unit.

    Appreciate your help!

P.S. Sorry I missed you at Celebration. I talked to Debbie (Black 550) and she told me where you were, I guess we just missed each other...I didn't see anyone sitting behind the blue 246.

There are a couple of valves that are in the lines between the canister and gas tank.

Debbie probably gave you the wrong place to look as I was with a dino that was far nicer then hers.

Is there a definite lifespan to those things?

Over the past couple of days, I had been doing reading on charcoal canisters. Somewhere on the net, I had read that 50K miles was replacement time. Mine had an open foam filter on the bottom and it looked disgusting.

General poking around and cleaning up the engine bay is what prompted me to really look at mine...and I couldn't believe that is was strapped in with nothing more than a large hose clamp. I began thinking; (A) this doesn't look like the correct placement for this and (B) there must be a bracket.

According to the manual, you're supposed to replace them at the 60K service.

What will happen if you don't ever replace it? Mine seems to be the original.
Should I fool with it or just forget about it?
