I was just up in my attic and spotted this hanging up! It is a piece of Mouse hair/Alcantara material which i bought from a guy in Mexico some 4 years back to recover the dash in my Dino. However i realised it was incorrect as the finish was too black whereas the original cloth has a slightly more charcoal appearance. What i would like to know is what model do you guys think this belongs too? It measures approximately 1.9 metres X 1.4 metres I want to put this on E-Bay and wondered what to list it suitable for....Any ideas? G P, i'm not sure what specific model it might be for, but i'd like to talk about for my 365 GT4 2+2. i've sent you a Private Message. thanks, brett
Do you have any close up photos of the nap and underlying grain? Be sure to alert us of the auction. Thank you
Scott Mac, The problem with this kind of item is that it is extremely difficult to get across a"feel" of the material with photos. All i can say is that it is as new and was obviously OEM for somehting. I am currently in PMs with the other poster here whom has shown some interest. thanks, Graham
I have a good sized chunk of the same material. I happened to like the look, but my dash restoration guy didn't so he bought some material from Dennis McCann instead. It's not for the Daytona either, as I sold, then unsold my piece to an fchatter who was going to use it for his Daytona. I dont think it's exactly correct for any of the earlier Ferraris. It doesn't have the distinct grain that 70's mousehair has, and it is a bit dark. but the color does match what McCann sent us. DM
I'm looking at a Dino that needs the dash redone, what would you guys estimate that should cost including materials?
Graham - the 365 C/4 has black mouse hair...very black. However, I am not sure that the Dino did not have black material when original. They all seem to fade towards the charcoal, even in the absence of sunlight. My Dino dash material has grown more charcoal over the years (in both Dinos) with minimal sun exposure. I have a C4 in my garage, and the original material was black. Jim S.
Graham when i recovered my dash last year, the trim under the dash was black. UV plays havoc with this material. Invest in a sun screen when you get to enjoy your car this year. tony
Guys I just got in from watching England being thrashed in the Ruggby I have bbeen drinking since 1.30ppm it now9.30...............I cant talk about bloody mousehair noew will talk in morning. Night

My dash is now a medium to dark charcoal, but the underside and other protected areas are very black. You can see the Dino vinyl grain underlying what is left of the mouse fur. My mechanic (who serviced my Dino (and many many others) originally sold through Grand Prix Motors in Seattle (30 years before GP became Ferrari of Seattle) says that the material was very, very black originally, but that within just a few years, it started fading. I managed to get several samples from different sources, and he says that the material that Dennis McCann has is the closest to the original. A couple of the other samples did not have any of the underlying Dino grain. Mark
And after personally seeing it I can say that it looks great!~ This post begs for photos... Mark is in the best position to answer this ...
Hic Up, belch......at least he enjoyed himself. P.S. I believe the oem colour is black; it does fade to a shade of grey over time.
Sorry guys....what a mess! Anyhow, moving on. The piece of cloth i have shown has not got the "Dino" vinyl underneath the flock. So i gues this could be the same as the Dennis McCann material. This cloth must be for some model of Ferrai as i have no doubt over the authenticity of the label attatched. And yes it is very black. I have used the cloth from Superformance as it appears of good quality and also appears faithfull to what we presume the original to be......The OEM certainly did have the vinyl under the flock rather than the flock on this piece being sprayed directly onto a black canvas base. I got three prices when I did mine. they ranged from $3K with material (from a highly recommended interior restoration guy) to about $1200+material (guy the body shop used) as I recall. Bought the material from Dennis McCann for $150/meter (I think you need 3 or 4 meters) and had it done for under $2K all in. part #20066007 from Dennis McCann www.allferrariparts.com That was about 3-4 years ago. At the risk of getting this off point, the original stuff even while on the car redyes to black quite easily
Michael, that's assuming you're mouse hasn't gone bald. Mine had no fur at all. Looked like a piece of vinyl on the dash. If there's fur, then certainly would be much easier to dye than replace. DM
Uhh, maybe you're still under the influence, because you misread my post. The mouse fur from Dennis McCann DOES have the correct Dino vinyl graining running underneath the mouse fur. Mark
