My bonnet (hood) release switch stopped working, I checked the fuses and relays the problem was not there, when the car went in for a service I asked them to check it out, two days later they told me that extensive work had been done, removing compressors etc to get to the wiring loom. Turns out a mouse had chewed through the cables. All is now ok.....£950!

Yup. Sounds about right. I recall a 360 that was sitting in a garage that needed the entire front wiring harness because of mice nibbling.

    Drive them!

Many years ago I was driving my Porsche Turbo to work and a mouse ran down my arm. I swatted it onto the dashboard, pulled off the highway, and considered burning the car right there. Never found the mouse.

Maybe the problem arose because he had the cats removed?

"cats removed" lol! for 950 lbs, I would either not use the trunk, or just operate it via manual release- I think it's on the passenger side. While we are at it, at least it was only a mouse and not a rat!

Cheaper to just keep a mouse trap in the glove box, no?

    Deploy as needed.

Hate to intrude on the humor, but this can be a Huge problem for those of us that live out in the sticks. We live in the mountains at about 4000ft and here is a (partial) laundry list of rodent damage to some of our vehicles:

1 - BMW 535. (GARAGED) Ate 3/4 of the hood insulation and chewed through the entire ASR cable. Was able to repair all as the affected parts were easily accessible.

2 - Ford Ranger. Chewed through the spark plug cables Twice. Replaced. Found large mouse family in the air intake and air filter. Evicted.

3 - Farmall 706 (Tractor) Chewed through front wiring harness. Replaced.

The difficulty comes during the winter, at least where we live. We put the new 360 in the garage in June and are getting ready for the onslaught starting about December or January. There are lots of repellents and gadgets for sale, but the three best we have found are:

    Fresh Cab - Ace Hardware
    Mouse Away - Ace Hardware
    Stay A way

These are small packets, which we tape in the engine compartments of our vehicles, but I think I am going to put them in the luggage compartment of the 360. They don't smell bad at all. They do have to be replaced every 90 days or so.

Oh, and some will say use poison pellets in your garage to kill them. We did, and a lot of those green pellets wound up inside the air intakes of our vehicles. I think keeping them out in the first place is a better tactic.

    Cheers, Andy

You would think that the boot compartment was pretty much sealed...obviously not, didn't think car or maybe house insurance covered that?

Appart from the mouse, a few days before, a steel step ladder fell onto the front of the car, a little dent and some small scratches, front end had to be sprayed (Ins job) there was corrosion the size of a coin between the rear pannels and some around the wheel arches, so I thought I would get this done when the car was in the paint shop. The back section had to be dropped to get all the corrosion. I had the wheels painted plus two new tyres, it then went for a service where they replaced the third brake light as it stopped working and a new Capristo race exhaust as one of the tail pipes of my Tubi had snapped at the weld and dropped off and Tubi no longer made that model. Fabricators said they could fix it but couldn't guarantee a perfect match!...Total price excluding ins job, £9700.

There is only a carpeted panel between the boot and the outside. They probably chewed through the panel.

I set traps for like 2 months straight 2 winters ago. I think I killed like 8 mice; haven't had one since. Peanut butter and traditional traps work great : )

Old motorcyclist trick is to lay new dryer sheets around the vehicle. Something about the chemicals deters mice.
