Why not let them use them where ever they want ... ? I'm seriously thinking that F1 is now so contrived with stupid rules due to earlier stupid rules that it's not worth watching. Bernie has finally killed it . Pete
Totally agree Pete ! They make a new rule, they let them use it in practice, and then only allow it between point x and z and only if your 1 sec behind. who thought up this stuff, Lego? They should have stuck with Stalling Wings, at least that had a genuine application
Next they'll tell them when it's OK and not OK to use their drink bottles. I think it should be up to the drivers to use it or not. If you have to regulate a rule this closely to make the purpose work, it can't be much good.
It may not be perfect, but fully active-aero is on the way and this is a step in the right direction. I'm hopeful that one day we'll see the aero incorporated with the telemetry and will auto-adjust based on things like steering angle and accelerator/brake force, etc.
+1000 I still don't know why they don't wanna go back to basics. Cheaper too. And less complicating for the fans and drivers.
Maybe someone here can clarify something I asked on another thread. At the end of P2 a car came on with inters. One of the SPEED TV crew stated now that one car was out on them none of the other cars could use the wing adjustment. Is this the case and if so wouldn't it allow a team to game the field by sending out its second, noncompetitive, car out on inters and freeze the wings on the rest of the field to benefit that team's better placed car?
Poor Phil! I *think* what you describe applies in practice & quali, but not in the race - Where they're already severely restricted as to when they can use it - I believe that regardless of weather/tires being used/etc, if you're up his chuff going on to the main straight, you can deploy the DRS as Charlie likes to call it...... Cheers, Ian
That's not the impression I got watching Speed. But most of the crew were unfamiliar with this aspect of the rule so who knows.
Not me, that's for sure!....... I watched the BBC feed yesterday, and they too mentioned that once someone went onto inters/wets all DRS movement was out, but my (possibly misguided!) impression was not in the race. Someone wanna ask Charlie? Cheers, Ian
Think even he knows? Apparently the FIA requested that the teams restrict their use of the wings in practice to areas where they are permitted during the race so that the FIA could collect more data. Can we say "unprepared"?
Probably not..... But, he'll come up with something - Probably after someone gets a huge advantage and/or gets screwed. He's about the only guy there now who seems to command total respect from the teams. "Unprepared". There were times yesterday the things were opening & closing more than.... <suitable metaphor eludes me right now>. Looking forward to seeing if anything is different in P3. Cheers, Ian
I had the same problem....... http://www.vipstand.me/sports/motosport.html Worked for me yesterday - Hopefully it'll still be good tonight. Cheers, Ian
Just watched the FP2 BBC feed and felt confused at the whole adjustable wing thing. Why make the rules so complicated? Does anyone understand how this is a good thing?
IMO the F-duct was better at doing nearly the same job. It certainly didn't throw you off the track as the DRS did to some drivers in quali.
+1 But, the restrictions on its use in the race are to prevent Nascar style back & forth - They want to make it "easier", but not too easy....... We will indeed see...... Cheers, Ian
