Accelerates from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 3.0 seconds Following its debut at the Geneva Motor Show, McLaren has shown off the 650S Spider at the Need for Speed gala in Hong Kong. While the movie has been getting terrible reviews, the 650S Spider should fare better as it has an attractive exterior that draws cues from the P1. The model also has a twin-turbo 3.8-liter V8 engine that develops 650 HP (478 kW) and 678 Nm (500 lb-ft) of torque. It is connected to a seven-speed SSG transmission which enables the 3020 lb (1370 kg) roadster to accelerate from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 3.0 seconds, 0-200 km/h (0-124 mph) in 8.6 seconds and on to a top speed of 329 km/h (204 mph). [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K3nbL9hBoM8]RIDE: McLaren 650S Coupe & Spider accelerations - YouTube[/ame] The Supercar Driver team had the chance to test the stunning McLaren 650S Coupe and Spider near Manchester, UK. You can join them through this onboard video from the passengers seat of the British hypercar. Packing a 650 HP (478 kW) punch from a V8 3.8-liter twin-turbo engine, the McLaren 650S Coupe hits the 62 mph mark (100 km/h) in only three seconds and covers the 0-124 mph (0-200 km/h) sprint in 8.4 seconds. The 204 mph Spider accomplishes the 0-124 mph (200 km/h) run just 0.2 seconds behind. Source: The Supercar Driver
More details have emerged about McLaren's upcoming P13 entry-level model slated to go on sale sometime in 2015. Set to compete with the Porsche 911 Turbo, McLaren's base model is going to adopt the same V8 3.8-liter twin-turbo engine but detuned to develop somewhere in the region of 500 HP (368 kW) which should be enough for a 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) run in about 4 seconds. It will be lighter and smaller than the 12C while the styling will be a combination between the 650S and P1 so don't expect any significant design changes. It's hard to predict the model's final name taking into account the rather peculiar and confusing nomenclature implemented by McLaren. The British marque estimates it will be the best-selling model ever and will represent a major factor in reaching the company's objective of shifting 4,000 units per year by 2016. It is believed the McLaren P13 will have a starting price of approximately 180,000 USD (130,000 EUR / 109,000 GBP) and will be unveiled at next year's Geneva Motor Show before going on sale several months later. Hmm me thinks they may have a bit of work to do to sell a lot more than the 26 cars in total they sold in Oz last year.
I know...this is real 3rd world problem stuff, but I can't see how the huge polished carbon fibre sill you have to climb over to get in and out of this thing won't be damaged in 10 minutes! Awesome colour. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t7O3BB4sU00]Red McLaren P1 Delivery - YouTube[/ame]
I have the same thing fitted to the mirrors of the Soarer. Back in a 1991 model car no less! Toyota call them ultrasonic mirrors and basically you get splashed be passing traffic and there is no wind to assist clearing the mirrors, so simply push a button and ultrasonics are applied and 'shakes' the water off the mirrors. Occasionally you can hear the noise, it's like a pointer on glass screeching noise, but softer. Certainly bearable, but you wouldn't want it all the time. Roll forward 23 years and I'm certain that technology has advanced this concept.
McLaren recently unveiled the 650S at the Geneva Motor Show but a new report is indicating the company is developing a track-focused variant. Details are limited but McLaren chief test driver Chris Goodwin told Auto Express the 650S "is not as far as were going to go theres plenty more we can do." Goodwin went on to say "around 12 percent of customers use their car on track." There's no word on specifications but the 650S coupe features a twin-turbo 3.8-liter V8 engine that develops 650 HP (478 kW) and 678 Nm (500 lb-ft) of torque. It is connected to a seven-speed SSG transmission which enables the car to accelerate from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 3.0 seconds and hit a top speed of 333 km/h (207 mph). Source: Auto Express

I enjoyed that clip, but in the last 5 minutes of it, Harris is clearly saying the 458 is better to drive. So, not much has changed from the 12C has it? Of course, if the 650S is priced in the $400's in Aus like the 12C, then it will be a headache for Ferrari and may even force them to bring the 458 price in line. That's a win for everybody.
According to Australian new car industry sales figures, McLaren sales- 2012 (May-Dec): 23 (Ferrari: 90; Lamborghini: 41) 2013: 26 (Ferrari: 106; Lamborghini: 47) 2014 Jan: 2 Feb: 0 So you saw near 10% of the cars in Australia last weekend Bondi & Paddington?? From what I saw last weekend the guy driving the black one will surely lose his license soon!
I can't stand people that speed The police up here are very nice, they keep sending me pictures of the Lexus and Ferrari but I wish the resolution was better and they would stop taking them from behind the car
I have a mate who ordered extra copies of a speed camera picture - he was on the way to a car show in his DB6 with friends driving his E-type and Montreal. The photo got all three cars in it and he claimed it was the best that had ever been taken of them!! John
Haha that can be the upside, did he order the hi-res copies ? All my pics are ruined with those numbers on it
I don't even remember the last time I saw a 355 Mainly Californias/458's in my area Brighton Le Sands tho the main road goes towards city/southern cross so probably just passing thru. There is a white one I see regularly in the area most likely he lives nearby. Most I see driving in traffic but there was an orange 12C parked @ Coles buying supplies
Another Bailey whom can't drive This thing definitely sounds better from the outside than inside. Onboard video with McLaren P1 lapping the Donington Park race track
