Anyone here do work with major distributors in the movie industry? ie. MGM, Paramount, etc?

I have something that may be profitable for them that I stubbled across...need to know what and who I have to talk too.

Also anyone know what rights and Lic. companies like netflex and blockbuster have to get before they can distribute the movies?

Distributors of authorized copies need no license; as a result of the "first sale doctrine" once they have purchased an authorized copy they are free to dispose of it, by reselling it, giving it away, or renting it, without further intereference from the copyright owner. This is because such activities do not implicate any copying by the distributor; only the distribution right, which is deemed exhausted after the "first (authorized) sale." There are exceptions to this set forth in section 109 of the US Copyright Act for other kinds of works, eg: sound recordings and computer programs, since there was a great tendency for the rental of those to lead to copying by the "borrower." And there you have it...

The question is more towards owning rights to a movie and distributing it.
