Well its getting closer and closer to take possesion of my new condo, ( first time buyer ) and I am starting to think of things that I may have missed. ( Misc items needed for first time owner )

So here lies the question " What did you forget about when you first moved out alone, that you wish you would have done differently or had "

Things I have already purchased, and or looked into:

Couch, Itialian Leather sectional with coffee table
Dishes, cutlery, and basic kitchen items
Complete home theatre system ( TV, Amp, DVD, 5 speaker system )
    Insurance (homeowners)

Also, I am going for a modern theme. Any tips / ideas? It has a 17ft vaulted cieling, and 950sqft.

Here is a pic of the new place

I am still working on buying my 1st place so I can't be too much of a help. Looks like yours will be pretty nice once it is done. Just buy the necessities, you will figure out what you are missing as you go..

No house for me but when I moved into my dorm, I forgot: Toilet paper, trash can/bags, laundry basket. Depending on the lighting, you might need to get a table lamp.

Things you mentioned and everything above is spot on.

Not a necessity, but I would make sure the Condo has paid an exterminator to spray before you move in. Also ask how often, or if you have to schedule and pay for it yourself.

I rent from my roommate and he hadn't sprayed in over a year. Then the ant problem developed to a serious extreme. Now we've had a few ants appear from time to time again on the second floor. He just shurgs it off as no big deal.

For someone who's major OCD with cleanliness, it boggles my mind he doesn't want to spray.

Invest in a set of quality tools if you don't already have them. You don't need to go crazy, but you should have the basics: hammer, level, screw drivers, wrenches, ratchet and socket set, tape measure, cordless drill, saw, pliers, etc.

Some things that I have found to be invaluable since living on my own:

A steamer to dewrinkle clothes.(Iron too of course but a steamer gets the job done 95% of the time.)

Lamps were definitely a good suggestion.

I also have an old, sturdy table that acts as a utility table. I use this for anything that might be messy or cause damage to kitchen countertops.

Lamps were a very good suggestion.

A fan. This is nice for cooling off after a workout or shower, and for me it helps to drown out noise when I sleep.

Little stuff: Bathroom stuff - plunger, shower curtain, soap dish, shower rack. Kitchen stuff - can opener, bottle opener/wine decorker. Stackable rubbermade containers are priceless too for misc. items.

Oh, and congrats! I hope to be in the same position as you in a few years. Still saving :)

Do you mean things that I forgot during pre-construction, or things that I can simply just buy? If you are asking for pre-construction suggestions, here are a few that I wish I had done differently:

    1) More wiring. I pre-wired for surround sound, and now I wish I had run more cable - triple the cat5, double the RG6.
    2) Gas for cooking. My electric range sucks, and I do not have sufficient wiring for induction cooking plus a separate oven.
    3) Customization of the bathrooms.
    4) Better soundproofing between party walls and floors.

    For furniture/misc:
    1) Don't forget the dining table/place to eat
    2) Lighting - there were no dimmers for most of the recessed lighting, so I had to install them. Also, you might want some floor/table lamps.
    3) Washer/dryer
    4) Cookware

A few more things I forgot to mention that I do have.

    Complete set of tools
Wine glasses, complete tumblers and dishes
Cieling fan is on its way

It comes with an island with a bar style table attached, so I dont have to worry about a table set, atleast for now

    well you beat me to it but now after living on my own for approxiamtly 9 years and often to different countries so i'm quite familiar with what you need;

A set of tools-screwdrivers,wrenches,hammer,level,stud-finder,tape measurer etc
TOWELS-seems minor but you'll be surprise how often people forget the day to day items.
CLEANING SUPPLIES-again something that seems minor but you'll be kicking yourself when you spill something on your rug, carpet etc.,
    BLANKETS,SHEETS
    TOILETRIES,shampoo,toothpaste,deodorant,paper towes,toilet paper etc.
Have your cable and internet etc hooked up before you actually move in theres nothing worse then being somewhere with nothing to watch but basic cable or the same DVD's you've seen a 100 times.
    Food.
Oh yeah some condoms for the boat-loads of ass you'll be bringing back to your OWN place, chicks loves guys that don't live with their parents!
I can't really think of anything else right now but i'll think about it some more and get back to you.
One more thing always make sure to have a 3-month back up of funds incase you need it,trust me you don't want to worry about where your next mortgage payment is coming from if god-forbid you get laid-off,quit etc.,

    GOOD LUCK!

    Emergency supplies:

First aid pack (not kit). Gauze bandages and pads, band-aids big and small, burn cremes, anti-septics (sprays, ointments). Keep all this stuff in a clear tub in a closet and mark expiry dates on the front.

Batteries. AA, C, D, 9-volt. Keep in a tub next to the first aid pack. Keep a battery tester in the same tub. Write purchase dates on each box.

Flash lights. Keep a variety stashed in places where you won't forget them. One in the dresser, one in the kitchen and one in the closet. One in a drawer near the front door.

Fire extinguishers. One in the kitchen. One near where you keep all your other emergency supplies.

Emergency numbers and contact numbers printed on a placard placed directly above the non-wireless phone. Ambulance, Fire, Police, Parents, etc.

Keep a case or two of bottled water on the floor underneath your emergency supplies, along with non perishable foods. Doesn't need to be much.

    Candles, lighter and matches
, in a tub. Can burn your house down if you aren't careful, but can provide light to save batteries.

All this should run you not much more than $150. You can get the stackable tubs at Wal-Mart or wherever for cheap.

    Non emergency items:

Spare tooth brushes. Are you a bachelor?
Spare package of toilet paper, paper towels.
Emergency bottles of wine and vodka.

Wow, thanks for the support guys!

There is definatly some things that I have forgotten about.

As for towels, my girlfriends mom is making me custom towels that have my last name embroidered on them. Kinda cool I think. White towels with Gold lettering in handwritting.

Backup cash, already have 8 months of emergency $$ saved up in addition to my other accnts.

The emergency supplies is a definate must. Like you mentioned, a large plastic tupperwear with all that good stuff is a great idea!
