Hello all! I just found out today that I will soon be moving to Austin for work. I know relatively little about the city, but I hear it's tremendous fun! I'm looking for advice on where to live--I'm single so I was thinking I would do the downtown thing--only problem is the parking! Does anyone know of a place that may accomodate 3 garage spots downtown? I'll be working in NW Austin, so any suggestions in that area would work as well. I understand traffic is getting to be a problem, but I should be driving against the rush hour mess. As for what I'm looking for, I'm trying to stay away from the house thing for now--a condo, loft, or upper end apartment would be perfect (I'm up for renting or purchasing). Thanks in advance for your suggestions, looking forward to meeting all of you and tackling some of those Hill Country roads!

    Welcome!
We have lots of new lofts and condos downtown. They are usually pretty expensive in the downtown area. I'm thinking around $300k - $5 million.

The Hilton has luxury condos that are real nice. It's called the 5FiftyFive. http://www.5fiftyfive.com/
I know someone who stays there and he has three parking spots in the garage. He keeps two Ferraris and a Porsche there with no problems.
I'm not really too sure about the other places downtown.

We have monthly Ferrari gatherings, so let me know when you get to town and I'll have you added to the email list.

Hey, Just a question, are you Indian, as in from India or are your parents from, I am also. I live in Williamson County, probably where you are moving. We just had like 4 years of nonstop construction on a new toll road. Not far is some good country roads. Welcome to Austin!

Austin is one of the most beautiful and fun cities to live! I lived there for 5 years when I was going to Univ. of Texas. I loved it! The people, the scenery, things to do, nightlife...just everything. You will love it and never leave!

I lived in most areas of Austin- south, on campus, far west, arboretum area, etc. The Northwest part of town near the Arboretum is great. Downtown is also booming and getting super expensive! The only problem with Austin now is the traffic! It is horrible with I35 and Mopac as being the major highways through the city. You will love the drive on 360 and also going up to Lake Travis... I wish I had my Ferrari when I was in school. I would have loved driving around Austinin it.

A couple of celebs I have ran into while I was there in Austin...Mia Hamm (soccer player), Sandra Bullock and Matthew McConhey (can't spell his name)

    ...aaahhh the memories!

    Enjoy!

Welcome to Austin.... well, when you get here. Lots of new stuff going up in downtown Austin, condo and loft wise, but I don't know much about it, lol. Eh... I'm drinking some Lone Star, so ummmm....... back to the beer. :)

Thanks for the welcome! I will be flying down to Austin to look at the Hilton condos in about 2 weeks--great suggestion! Any more? And to answer the question about my ethnicity--yes, I am Indian (well technically my parents are, I was born in the Chicago 'burbs). Again, looking forward to meeting all of you!
