I posted this in the off topic section as well but this is probably a better place to ask.
I'm looking for some advice, and I know this is maybe not the best place to get advice on how to live my life but I figured a couple more opinions doesn't hurt.

I don't really want to stay in the snow up here in the north of Sweden. The three months of summer we get isn't really enough for me so I'd like to try something else.
I spent almost eight months backpacking in Australia during 2004-2005 and I loved every minute of it. The scenery, weather, atmosphere and, the biggest reason of them all, the people are absolutely wonderful. I've always wanted to go back there and I've dreamed of living there every day since I got back home from my trip. And now, I figured why the h*** shouldn't I? You only live once! And I've always been good at doing the things I want to do. So if that is moving halfway around the world, I should do that, right?

The thing is, you don't exactly get a visa handed to you just by moving there. I don't have any special skills for any job since I've travelled around quite a lot, played sports and just had smaller jobs my whole life. And I don't think you guys are in big need of English-to-Swedish translators.. :)

Maybe it sounds a bit wierd but, does anyone have any idea what I can do?

You will have a miserable life here in OZ imo unless you have the skill and talent to score yourself a high paying job. The cost of living at the moment is really high in all states, especially capital cities.

Ewwwww negativity....we still live in the land of opportunity....come on over Sven and give it a go (if you can swim thru the masses of red tape they are likely to throw at you)

We as a nation have embraced many things Swedish...and I for one would have embraced Miss Lyngstad if only I was allowed! :)

    Have a look here

    http://www.immi.gov.au/

    and specifcally

    http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/

Difficult (impossible ?) to get a visa unless you have skills that are in demand in Australia, or can meet other entry requirement (ie business entry ).

    Hi Zlaatan,

My best friend is Swedish/Australian and I can tell you there aren't too many of you guys here! He recently moved back for a year but missed Australia too much and is back now, but I did take the opportunity to visit your country - had a great time, but I can see what you mean about the weather!

I am no expert on visa's but a friend of mine from England came here on a working holiday visa and has been renewing it periodically until he can secure something more permanent. From what I am aware it's been pretty easy for him to renew, though he did have to spend 3 months working in either construction/manufacturing/mining and a host of other hands on jobs as one of the requirements.

Best of luck and I hope your Aussie dream comes true!

We have a Phillipino work mate at work that has been here nearly 2 yrs and wants full Visa/residency. :):)

He reckons he needs to be "sponsored" by an employer to gain residency here in Oz. :):)

He doesnt have a trade and the mines wont sponsor him. I dont know what he will eventually do. :):)

But it sounds like you need someone you. That or marry an Aussie chick.:eek:

Wow, I expected, at the most, one answer sometime next week! Thanks for all the replies!

    And I AM a hot blonde!!...........guy..
    sorry. :)

I have looked at the imigration website and I must say it doesn't look very good. When I visited 6 years ago I had a one year working visa which would be a very nice start now but unfortunately you can only get that visa once in your life.

And considering my last relationship, I think I'm staying away from marriage.. ;)

I guess I have to go to school here and educate myself. Then find an employer down there who wants to hire me. Easy! :)

Just come in via Iraq/Afghanistan, jump a refugee boat and land way up north somewhere. The Australian tax payer then provides bed and breakfast for free for a few years. Eventually they let you in, give you a public house and put you on benefits. We are very generous folks here.

did you see the new laws making other lawyers rich statement on the news re refugees being able to keep appealing all the way to god in the courts ??

I hate lawyer/politicians, just check what all the past PMs occupations have been and see why this country is rooted.

And i can hear Roman saying that as legislators is makes sense for them to be lawyers but I call that a crock, yes have the lawyers set the laws up correctly but have normal people (and I have met very few normal legal people) 'make' the laws .... too often the only beneficiaries of these laws are the lawyers ...... criminals in suits
