I've noticed a strange pattern and wanted to feel it out with others here: it seems like every person that I know that has put a deposit on a 12C is on a 'late summer/early fall' build schedule. Granted, its only about a dozen or so that I've sampled through various forums online, but still there is something fishy about that particularly because more than a few are in the same general geographic areas of the US (east coast and west coast).

So here are the possibilities I see:

    1) dealers are telling everyone what the client wants to hear to get deposits in, rather than the truth which may be later in 2012

    2) people are jumping the queue unbeknownst to others that were actually in first contact with McLaren early on

    3) there is so little demand for the car that the production capacity is sufficient to in fact get everyone that is currently interested a car in 2011

    4) sampling bias in internet forums which are populated by early adopters

I don't feel too bad about scenario 1, but scenario 2 and 3 are pretty disturbing on various levels.

So whats the deal? Anyone out there been told 2012 as a delivery date for their cars?

I requested 2012 and was promised exactly that.
I don't need this car when Chicago turns into an arctic zone....

There is only so much that McLaren should commit to. I mean the factory isnt finished yet and they are continuing to improve the car. The earliest I could get is maybe late 2011 or 2012. Demand for this car will continue to build as we move forward and more and more media is made available. I believe that it is the perfect sportscar at any price.

I’m with you on this one Superquant.

I’m a UK buyer and have been told definitely last quarter, but I too get the feeling that people have jumped the queue ahead of me and not convinced by the promised delivery date.

so the question is, would you have gotten promised a fall 2011 build if you didn't request a later one?

If it helps I registered interest in Nov 2007 and my car is coming off the production line Week 27 (w/e 10th July). I've been told my car is approx car number 40 of the Customer cars however there are a number of cars being delivered in May/ June to VIP's.

As far as I can tell from a number of other buyers, Mclaren seem to have been spot on in terms of sticking to the original list of interest.

My dealer isn't expecting their own showroom and demo cars to arrive until August. My car is expected to arrive shortly after that. The cars built and delivered over the summer are the dealership cars.

Let's put the conspiracy theories aside. If customers are "jumping the queue", they are also jumping the queue ahead of the dealerships who use those cars to sell the 12C which doesn't make any sense. From what I understand, the dealerships have only been contacting people for deposits who are guaranteed a car in this calendar year hence everyone talking about this generally getting delivery within 3 months of each other. The only way you would be getting a car in the summer is if your dealership got their demo cars early (ie: the UK).

I have deposit in and final order will be in this week or next. I asked for a December 2011 or January 2012 delivery after the dealer hinted the delivery would be October 11. I wanted the first wave of deliveries to the UK and others to see if the car has bugs that need to be worked out before mine is delivered in December or January.
