I would take the Mac over those two cars any day. I think you made the right choice.

Do you have a 2014 by any chance? My 14 seems quicker than my 2012. And that was already a very quick car!

    Blasphemy!!!!!
Who would ever say this?!?! :(

Don so you changed from a 997 to the 12C. Actually, this seems like a fair segue way....from a Scud.
Performance wise the 12C does seem phenomenal.

Interesting you thought the Scud was a bit too raw for dinner dates.
My wife and I love the 16M for dates.
But then again the Scud is like a Mercedes compared to my Exige and CGT.

Sounds like the driving experience in the 12C will offer more multidimensionality compared to the Scud.
But ohhhhh I dare say you will miss the visceral experience of the Scud!

It's insane what's going on with mclaren. There was one that was offered last week for $160,000. 2012...the Mac forum is on fire lately especially with the new car being introduced and surprising everyone. As i posted over there; (not bashing btw); Lambo has 700 orders for the new huracan. Someone posted a link from the Lambo forum noting the depreciation mclaren is taking.
I think you said it a while ago bob - they should have introduced the p1 first to build up loyalty etc...

Maybe it's a British thing....are there any that don't depreciate rapidly? Jaguar, Land Rover, and Aston Martin all depreciate quickly.

Maybe Morgan is more immune, I've been patiently waiting for the new 3-Wheeler to depreciate a bunch so I can justify buying one, but no such luck yet! ;)

Depreciation is always about supply and demand (given that cars are apples to apples ie no damage or stories). It has nothing to do with the country aside from creating more or less supply or demand.

I do wonder if McLaren is forcing itself into a situation where it has to discount new models to current owners. My Lamborghini new car buying ended after 2006 when I was told it was $100k plus my 3000 mile 18 month old Gallardo to get into a LP560. I can say that I love my MP4-12C and I am glad it's a keeper, as I can't see paying $150K plus to get into a 650s.

I just think it is a small market that Ferrari dominates so well that interlopers in the space just dilute demand too much to hold their value.

So will the 650S push the 12C prices down even further?
I do like the front end of the 650, looks "P1"-esque.
I just don't understand their strategy when there is already talk of the P13 and P15....too many models too soon?

I don't see why it would do much to used prices. The new car will be 300k. It's not like used buyers at 180k can up their budget 120k.

If you bought used under 200k you're looking at average depreciation for the next few years.

Maybe McLaren is copying Dany Bahar's style when he was at Lotus Plc. How'd that work out !

How do they expect them to keep value with oversupply like that?
Local dealer has over 12 just new Spiders in stock listed, with more coming.
It's like going to a Toyota dealer to look for a new Camry.....

    223 miles!!!

That is an AWESOME deal!!! MSRP was $260K. Someone must have traded it and FJ wants to blow it out fast. They already made their money on the sale so they just want the cash.

12 is a lot. That's like $3.6 million in inventory to be holding on. Your average Honda dealer probably has less on any given day.

    Ah.. that explains it.

I bet you could knock off another 15 grand in about 2 minutes if someone were really serious.

That's the best deal I've seen ever. There's quite a few under $200 but most not as highly optioned or with so few miles.

I wonder what prices will be like when the 650s hits and all the 2012's are out of warranty.

I am in the market for one of these bad boys, there are about 15 2012 cars, highly optioned less than $200K, average is about 190K. This is by far the lowest price I have seen especially with such low miles. Chassis # 1729 is a late 2012 build - Aug.

I would jump on this if it had the upgraded wheels and all the CF bits, as it is, not as well optioned as I would like.

    A few comments...

    1) this is a moderately optioned 12c. It's missing several 'high demand' options such as CF interior, CF engine bits, lightweight/upgraded wheels, etc.

    2) I am seeing ~$80k off of MSRP for low mileage (<2,000 mi) 2013 12c, both Spiders and Coupes (although just few coupes were made in 2013).

    3) Earlier 2012 (VIN#s ending less than 1200) have the older pre-cog shifting, that several don't like (although some love it)

    4) The 12c's seem to be less mileage sensitive than Ferraris. That is, there doesn't seem to be a mileage penalty once you hit 5000 or 10000 miles. But there is also less history to compare against.

...if you want to buy performance and are ok with a 'basic' car, this black one for $179k is really hard to beat. And with the exception of the CF interior, all the other OEM CF bits can be added later.

DISCLAIMER: yes I'm in the 12c market.

I got a chance to talk with one of the McLaren reps at Desert Concorso and they had a beautiful 650S on display. He said the 650S is replacing the 12C.
650S coupes will be around $310k and spiders around $330k. [IMG]

So add another $15k in options, which isn't a lot. However, 650S is well optioned as stock. Many items that were options on the 12c are standard of the 650S. FWIW, the highest MSRP 12c spider I've seen was just shy of $360k.

I like the overall concept of the 650S, but I need to see it in person to determine if I really like the front. Like it or not, the front is definitely more exotic looking than the 12c.

Too bad they weren't offering test drives!!!

By no means a bad looking car, but it looks bare bones to me and it won't be coming from a dealer and may not be able to have the warranty extended.
