Just wondering if you'd let me know what kind of gas mileage you're getting on your 308 with carbs. Thanks.
15-17 un-tuned, on an balanced '77 GT4 with approx. 80K miles. Hopefully it will be better after I've gone though it.
My old 308 got 9 to 12 overall, depending on how lean/rich the carbs were tuned. 15 to 17 on the carb car seems incredibly high to me, unless you're doing pure highway driving. That's better than 328s get combined city/highway (I got overall 14 MPG over just under 3000 miles).
I think 10 is realistic for around town. I have driven mine for 7 years and 10 is about right even after I rebuilt the carbs and upgraded to electronic ign. while rebuilding the dist.
Out here in the wild, wild west, at a CONSTANT 75-80 highway I see 18mpg all the time; crank it up to 90-110 ( out in the open, obviously) it drops to about 8-10 and you need a pit stop about once an hour! Around town I usually figure about 11-12 but it is hard to know for sure as I try to do as little in-town driving as possible...these cars hate in town driving anyway...('79 308GTS)
Yes, that's hwy driving. That's what I got driving the car home to Los Angeles, from Oregon. I haven't had a chance to do much around town driving yet, because I haven't had it long enough to figure out the mileage. I know my friend from Oregon has an '88 Mondial 3.2, that got 20-21 on the hwy up to Oregon and back, when we took his up there so he could register it. It's just coincidence that the car I bought (off eBay) was only 2 blks away from the Medford DMV, and I ended up going there twice in 3-weeks. Two great drives. And made for a great comaprison. His is smoother and quieter, with better gas mileage. Mine is more fun. WAY more fun!!!
Obviously mine is a Euro-spec car but I certainly get above 15mpg. I have always estimated mpg to be around 18-22mpg on a reasonalbe run. Next time I fill her up, I will zero the mileometer and report back with my results. It's a good job my 308 is not too thirsty with these prices Leaded Petrol in the UK is GBP 1.37 a litre GBP 6.20 a Gallon USD 11.50 a Gallon (@1.85) Unleaded Petrol is a tad cheaper (USD 8.30 a Gallon) but I prefer to stick in the poisonous stuff Also, of course our Gallon is being than yours (so there...)
I get 12-14 mpg on my 1976 glass 308 gtb. Its not a frugal engine as it loves to rev! On highway its always at 3500-4500 rpms......its hard to get good mpgs at that rpm. I am thinking of trading it in on a hybrid......
17 on the open road (60-80 mph) and 10 around town because we all like to drive in 2nd or 3rd . Just love the sound and screw the mileage. Enjoy the ride
1977 desmogged GTB. Tubi exhaust I see 10 - 12 mpg on average. I have never seen the high teens mentioned by some others mention but it could be zeal with which we drive.
I get around 12 in a '77 GTB on average, up to as much as 15 on the highway, and I get around 15 (mostly around town) in a Mondial QV but that creeps to 18 on the highway. But who cares? That is the LEAST of the operating expenses for the car. Birdman
Well, you SHOULD care. It's not a financial thing. It's important to compare mileage to ensure that your engine is in a proper state of tune (i.e., your carbs are way too rich if you're only getting 8 MPG). At the same time, the people reporting 15+ around town in a carb 308 may not be calculating their mileage correctly (or drive very conservatively or are running inappropriately lean).
'76 GTB (steel).....never calculated city mileage, but consistently get 16 mpg on highway trips.... Anthony
Haven't calculated it, because I honestly am not sure I want to know... Whatever it is, 'tisn't good...
