Seriously blown, dude. Yes, I will post pix and a thread in tech about how to do this repoair Stooge-style.

Bottom line is that the repair went well and the clutch works very well. Unfortunanately, upon return from the road test, there was some trans oil leaking from the housing. We are sure it is the triple seals. They looked fine, but you never know on a 17-year old car with 43K miles. So, our next repair thread will be on how to change these too!

See how lucky you guys are these parts fail?! :p

The take-way is that all us 348 drivers are in this together and any set backs you have with the car, we are all here for you.

Always change 3x seals if you take pumpkin off. They will leak if violated

Vince, I did the seals in my TO bearing a few weeks ago. My triple seals looked brand new, I took Ernie's advice (and FBB's below) and I replaced them regardless.

Thank you for the advice. Just where the he77 were you when we were talking about it on Sunday?! (to FBB) :) Ernie only mentioned it after I told him I ordered the parts from Ricambi, not before. Good advice; lousy timing. Whatever, it's a learning experience. We are Stooges afterall...

My new thread will say just this, BTW. Whenever you are working in the trans area, replace all the rubber stuff unless you just did it. These parts are not expensive.

I begged and pleaded with him,

"Please Vince, change the triple seals. Please don't leave those old things in there. Please listen to me Vince, please, I'm 'begging you'. Don't do it Vince, change them out. For the love of might, change the triple seals". :D :D :D

    Hahahahahaaa!

No. That original looks like the Ferrari/Valeo one. You can tell by the stamped date code indicia on it.

    POJ, to put it mildly.

The reason I ask is because it has the same blue coloured seals in it that the Hill has. When I took mine apart, they were black and one was orange.

But now that I look more closely, I see the Hill unit is flush all the way down to the wider area of the unit, wheras Vince's blown unit is not.

The Hill unit uses Genuine Ferrari seals. The color difference you noticed was simply the changeover from a very old/early bearing which indeed used black seals.
