Why do you consider this to be a joke ?

Had MS chose to stay and continue to race, with the addition of KR, where is that going to leave FM ? Back to being a test driver or do you think Ferrari would have field 3 cars last season ?

That's exactly what I said on this forum a few months ago. Ferrari told Michael he could stay on, but Kimi was going to be his race mate and Michael didn't want to cost Felipe his seat so he retired. Sure he wanted to spend more time with his family, but he had competing desires like we all do. I think he wanted to get to 100 victories and then he might have been able to go with no regrets. I bet that if he had been at 96 or 97 victories Felipe would have been testing cars until Michael got to 100.

That tells us exactly who the Ferrari management rate as the better driver.

I'm with jk0001, I don't think for a second MS wanted to have his last season slogging it out with Kimi. Perhaps it was a combination of the two issues but if it were I think the Kimi issue was larger to him.

Does this mean Kimi and Michael would race or would Michael play second fiddle to Kimi or Kimi second to Michael?

    What do you think?

This story is never ending. I am not sure at all why some people want to believe that Schumacher was afraid of Raikkonen. That's just crap. Other than it being fodder for a gossip rag, there is nothing to substantiate this. Just this year MS showed up at a practice and tested the same day as Kimi. Schumacher's 2006 retirement was made public long before the pre-contract with Raikkonen.

He was not forced to retire, he was only forced to make a decision and live with it. If by Monza, he had chosen to stay another season as offered by Jean Todt, he would have continued by taking Massa's seat.

Can't imagine it would be any different than this year, Ferrari mangement has stated there is no #2 driver. Yet.

It would depend on who has the clear mathematical chance of winning the WDC by Monza. At the end of the day, it will only matter how the two drivers could win the WCC for Ferrari.

MS is clearly better driver IMHO. Maybe Kimi will be better than MS after spending years at Ferrari learning. Kimi is young and he has many years to race.

99% of the guys n gals in prison are innocent. Really. Just ask them. They'll tell you.

  14. Kimi isn't that young, and he is toying with the idea of hanging up his shoes if Autosport is to be believed. Kimi will never be regarded as a fraction of the talent of Schumacher, who ranks with Senna as one of the quickest drivers of all time, and who it can be said was actually a driving genius.

Yes, I did, and that is a big part of the reason for retirement. Note that he is now 39, kind of a geiser in F1 terms.

So in other words you just pulled that out of your rear end?

Also, considering how how Raikkonen struggled to match Massa early on, MS would have destroyed Kimi and taken the title.

Well, that's assuming that Kimi didn't benefit from Michael's set up and testing. It really seems like since he left Kimi's been striving to test the most and make set up changes etc. I sort of feel like Massa is just along for the tow like he was with Michael.

But I'm not in the pits, so of course this could be very wrong. I'm just playing devil's advocate...

+1. It is a combination of things that lead to his decision to retire from F1.

Was that really necessary ? FYI, it has also been written many times before that Corina has urged Michael to quit for a few years before 2005 and that in the end, family played a part in his decision to retire, which MS had stated in his retirement announcement and in many of the interviews since his retirement.

its really difficult to say, but MS got beaten twice by a younger gun, Alonso. he always kept mentioning that when he gets beaten by a younger person, then it's time to move on.

for whatever it's worth, i think MS would have crushed Kimi last season.

But the question nobody's ever asked was whether Schumi left because Todt and Braun wanted to change things. ;)

We never really did get to see Schumi without the support crew.

    Ridiculous

Schumacher's entire career was based on singleminded selfishness. Everything he ever did in motorsports revolved around his own self-interest. To think he retired to save Massa's career is a complete joke.

i don't believe this claimed reason 'to save Massa's job' for a second either! but it's a nice bit to tell everyone however. how many actually believe it?
