Did anyone catch this comment from speed commenatators today? I can't remember who quoted him but what a wonderful summation of skilled driving. I think he said that the 4 tires talk to him and he "feels" the grip amongst them and balances the car from that feedback. And in the wet?? "In the wet they whisper". Michael, good luck, you will be missed. Like him or not, he brings an energy and passion to F1 that will not be replaced by Alonso or Kimi.
Well said. Unfortunately, I'm sure you will be flamed by some rabid Alonso fan with an IQ lower than my number of posts.
Racing is and it instills passion in the fans. (But they don't have to be crude about it. ) I got a chuckle from that quote, too. That's why I never liked XASs: they lied.
That was a cool comment by Steve. I remember reading about Nuvolari that he knew at all times the weight that was pressing on all four tires individually through all points of the corner and it helped him instinctively and easily sense the grip available and meter the throttle accordingly. These guys are something special!!!
The comment was like a revalation to me. You know the old light bulb thing?! Depending on the car, I am aware of the chasis, the grip and my expectations of that particular car but to feel all four tires like say the edge while skiing, that brought home a new sense of car perception.
You know, if someone wants to contradict this, put down, insult, or make fun of Michael in any way, then they just shouldn't be here in this forum. I can't stand Alonso with a passion (I'm trying not to say hate).
Nobody is saying that. Besides, if you have ever raced, you will know the tires tell you things, the shocks tell you things, the chassis tells you things, the aero tells you things. And why anyone would even bring Alonso into this is beyond me, it's not even in the realm of this conversation.
The Schumistas are so sensitive these days that they're pre-emptively starting flames against themselves
Yes folks, there will be a problem in next year's Ferrari line up. The secret "overclocked" CPU that has been in Ferrari race cars has--------------------------- now wait for it------------ has retired. So the secret is out, the real power advantage was that Ferrari and AMD were actually tapping into Michael's brain for extra power for the computer. Ever since the "retirement program" was launched the "overclocked CPU has been having problems" with the retirement program. Hopefully the new overclocked chip code named "Massa" will not have any problems.
I am sure the tires are talking to MS, they say please come back for 1 more year~~~~~~! I dont think F1 will be the same, ever..... I sure will miss him..
All of the top drivers have a sensitivity for their cars that defies belief. I remember similar stories about Senna's awareness behind the wheel.
I remember a story from Senna, he said he could hear the valves working, could tell if something was wrong slightly before it happened. I don't think it's limited to just him, I've heard that from a few drivers.
There was a story years ago that Senna was circulating around Monaco when he told the team that one of the barriers had been moved. The team checked it out and found that the barrier had been moved back about half an inch. Then again, there's the story about Ted Williams and home plate being off center by a quarter of an inch... Could just be a story but who knows?
