I have performed a few searches in hopes of finding a specific answer to this, but I did not have the luck I hoped for. I found a couple threads from the boxer forums that state that installing MSDs on certain boxers does not require a tach adapter, and others do (cars that had digiplexes?). Can someone tell me if the points driver 308 ignition systems require a tach adapter or not? I am going to have my xr700s drive two msds but I need to know if a tach adapter is going to be required.

    thanks all.

Tommy, Nick Forza had an adapter for the XDI boxes that worked great in the Qv.

Yes please keep us updated. As for my situation, because I will have my crane xr700s driving the msds, I am wondering if I will need a tach adapter. The signal is not coming from the points, but rather from the cr700 unit which is triggered by an optical sensor. I will keep everyone informed on this one unless someone else has an answer. Good thread

Very interesting. I bought a 1970 Fiat Dino 2.4 liter, which had the Dinoplex missing. I fitted an MSD unit (1981 or so vintage) and could not believe how much smoother the engine ran. Hooked up the tachometer lead to the MSD and, presto, the previously dead tachometer worked perfectly. Times change and I bet the MSD units have, as well.

Installed the tach adapter last night...Tach works!
By the way, with the CD ignition, this engine has never run so well...
idles smooth when cold , starts faster, and just purrs when warm...worth the work and money
