There is an SCCA race school, race and time trial, so anyone with a car and some decent experience can participate. Weather is supposed to be in the 60s and MSR is probably the safest track in the world. Come on out for time trials, racing school, racing or just to watch. Info and registration is here:

I'm interested in the school only this weekend, I have nothing better going on, short notice to consider it but I could make it work if the stars align. A couple of questions that I didn't find answers to via your link.

Regarding experience, I have 10 LeMons races under my belt, several on-track test and tune sessions, and also have attended and earned Solo run group status with the PDE folks at TWS. Is this sufficient for the SCCA school?

Please define the term "car" above. Does school participation require a car that would fully pass SCCA tech inspection? My prepped and ready track car was built to LeMons rules, has passed their safety and tech inspections, and raced in LeMons, and I'm sure there are minor differences in tech rules but I don't have the time to do extensive research and make modifications before the weekend. A quick read indicated my car would be considered "Improved Touring"

Is there any "checkride" component to the school where a passenger would need to be accommodated with proper seat and harness?

Also, I see a medical required to obtain license, it's very short notice to obtain before the weekend, is the medical a prerequisite for the school or can that be obtained later and submitted with application for license?

I'm not averse to reading the relevant rulebooks or guides if you can point me to their location.

I am no tech expert and don't know the Lemons rules very well, but the SCCA rules are here.

The Sports Car Club of America - Club Racing.

No pax is required for checkout. Remember lots of cars are single seat.

I feel confident your experience qualifies you to attend the school. Hope you can dig up a sawbones for your medical. I think you will need it in advance

Thanks Keith. I'll spend tomorrow evening at the shop going through the cage stuff with a measuring tape. We built a great cage but only Lemons and Chump rules in mind. At first glance I can see a few things I'll need to do like install a window net. Maybe I can get my doc to fax me a medical, I was in there not long ago.

Either way, worth the exercise of familiarizing with SCCA rules. And even if I don't drag the car out there, maybe will come say hi.

Shawn, I'll text you and let you know if I am headed out there. It may or may not be with my car. Depends if I get some things installed.

I am being told by a buddy who has been through the MSR-H SCCA license schools that the SCCA school at MSR-Cresson this weekend is being offered at a significantly lower cost than the ones held at MSR-Houston. I wonder what the difference is, or if I am misunderstanding something.

Dang it. This isn't gonna happen for me this weekend.

Keith, how often does this 2 day school format happen? Annually?

Jennie, Mia, and I stopped by Sunday. We had been down at Fossil Rim Wildlife Center. Watched end of your SM race Keith. I still love how you hang it out getting a mild tail slapper exiting Big Bend and just staying in it. :D Saw and talked to Larry from the KC FCA. I didn't know anyone else! Wow times have changed. Didn't see any of the Spec. RX7 guys. :(

Interested in knowing when next SCCA school at MSR might be. And the difference between "school" and "super school." When I looked last week I didn't see any other "super school" on calendar.

I think it's annual. I also think Super School means you get your license and get to race. It was fun racing with the graduates.
